NYU Abu Dhabi invites applications for a Kawader Research Assistant Fellow position to support the project Evolutionary Genomics of Adaptation.
The goal of the project is to determine the genomics basis of adaptation to extreme environments with a focus on vertebrate species adapted to desertic habitats. Using the tools and concepts of evolutionary and population genomics the successful applicant will identify genes responsible for such adaptations and will conduct detailed molecular evolutionary analyses of candidate genes to identify the precise genetic changes that allow organisms to survive in deserts.
This position offers hands-on training in evolutionary biology molecular techniques and computational genomic analysis within an active research environment at NYU Abu Dhabi.
What the Program Offers:
Full-time paid research position for up to 3 years.
Mentorship by internationally recognized NYUAD faculty members.
Professional development and academic training opportunities.
Exposure to interdisciplinary and collaborative research projects.
Support for graduate school applications.
Research and laboratory experience within a leading evolutionary genomics group.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct evolutionary and population genomic analyses to identify candidate genes involved in adaptation to desert environments.
Perform molecular biology procedures such as DNA extraction electrophoresis PCR and preparation of genomic samples.
Contribute to data processing computational workflows and comparative genomic analysis.
Collaborate with team members to advance the projects goals.
Supervision
This position is supervised by Prof. Stéphane Boissinot Professor of Biology.
Required:
Bachelors degree in Biology.
Highly desired:
Advanced knowledge of evolutionary biology.
Experience in genomic analysis.
Experience with basic molecular biology techniques (e.g. DNA extraction electrophoresis PCR).
Required Experience:
Junior IC
