Fabricator
Fabricators are skilled workers responsible for constructing and assembling metal structures or products using various tools and techniques. Their duties may differ based on the industry such as construction manufacturing automotive or aerospace. Key responsibilities include:
- Blueprint Interpretation
- Understanding technical drawings schematics or CAD designs
- Interpreting measurements and material specifications
- Material Preparation
- Selecting and measuring raw materials typically metal
- Cutting materials to specified dimensions using tools like saws shears lasers or plasma cutters
- Component Assembly
- Fitting and aligning parts using clamps jigs and fixtures
- Joining parts using welding bolting or riveting techniques
- Welding and Metal Joining
- Performing MIG TIG arc or spot welding
- Ensuring high-quality strong welds free of defects
- Machining and Shaping
- Operating tools such as grinders lathes or drills to shape and finish parts
- Bending or rolling metals using hydraulic presses or rollers
- Quality Control and Inspection
- Checking finished products for accuracy and defects
- Using measuring instruments like calipers micrometers and gauges
- Maintenance of Tools and Equipment
- Keeping fabrication tools and machines in proper working condition
- Performing routine maintenance and minor repairs
- Health and Safety Compliance
- Wearing protective gear (PPE) and following safety procedures
- Ensuring work areas are clean and hazard-free
- Documentation and Reporting
