Roles and responsibilities
We are seeking a highly experienced Planning Engineer to join our team in Abu Dhabi. The successful candidate will have over 8 years of recent experience working with construction consultants on utilities projects in Abu Dhabi. This role will involve planning and scheduling project timelines, coordinating with project teams, and ensuring that project milestones are met efficiently and effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning and Scheduling:
- Develop detailed project plans and schedules for utilities projects, ensuring alignment with project goals and objectives.
- Utilize planning software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) to create, update, and maintain project schedules.
- Monitor project progress against the baseline schedule and identify potential delays or deviations.
Coordination and Communication:
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including project managers, engineers, and contractors, to ensure cohesive project execution.
- Communicate project schedules, updates, and changes to stakeholders and project teams.
- Facilitate regular project meetings to discuss progress, address issues, and ensure alignment among all parties involved.
Risk Management and Mitigation:
- Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies to address them.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and update risk management plans as necessary.
- Implement contingency plans to ensure project continuity in case of unforeseen events.
Progress Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare and present regular progress reports, including schedule updates, variance analysis, and resource allocation.
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including schedules, progress reports, and meeting minutes.
- Ensure all documentation is up-to-date and accessible to relevant stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement:
- Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in project planning and scheduling.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior planning engineers and other team members.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of WSP’s planning and scheduling processes and tools.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- A minimum of 8 years of recent experience as a Planning Engineer with construction consultants, specifically on utilities projects in Abu Dhabi.
- Proven expertise in project planning and scheduling using tools such as Primavera P6 and MS Project.
- Strong understanding of local regulations, standards, and best practices in Abu Dhabi’s construction and utilities sectors.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
- PMP (Project Management Professional) certification or equivalent is highly desirable.
