Roles and responsibilities
- Oversee maintenance fault diagnosis and repair, including systematic strip down and re-building of mechanical equipment and components relating to, but not limited to, cranes, winches, pumps, compressors, valves, machine tools and other similar plant equipments.
- Oversee installation of mechanical plant and equipment including piped services
- Maintain and troubleshoot various workshop equipments
- Coordinate with departments for identifying the job scope and timely highlighting of discrepancies from specifications
- Prepare daily time sheets for the team and make sure overtime hours are controlled well.
- Ensure optimum use of resources and adequate control on wastage of materials/consumables.
- Prepare job turn over for next shift and prepare daily progress reports for job done under his supervision.
- Liaise with other discipline foremen / supervision to ensure the optimum utilization of available resources, with the overall objective of successful completion of the project.
- Assist the senior foreman and supervisors in planning activities.
- Ensure that the workers are properly supplied with machineries, tools, equipment and materials and everything is in proper order and state of maintenance.
- Perform inspections to ensure that the workers performance is up to the set standards.
- Create progress reports on a daily basis and ensure that any significant information is communicated to the supervisor i.e. resource shortfalls, surplus, HSEQ concerns.
- Work as a team leader responsible for development / motivation of sub-ordinates, on the job training and performance appraisal of the team members
- Follow the day-to-day operations related to own job to ensure continuity of work
- Treats workers fairly, openly and with respect. Listen to their views and take this into consideration.
Experience / Qualification & Skills
- Proficient in all practical aspects and be able to repair equipments / machineries including systematic strip down and re-building of mechanical equipment and components relating to, but not limited to, cranes, winches, pumps, compressors, valves, machine tools and other similar plant equipments.
- Secondary school.
- Industrial / vocational training, Leadership training ,Presentation skills.
- 5-6 years’ relevant experience in heavy mechanical maintenance workshop .

- Lead and supervise a team of mechanical technicians, workers, and subcontractors, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and according to schedule.
- Assign daily tasks to mechanical workers and ensure that work is executed correctly and safely.
- Conduct regular team meetings to discuss the progress of projects and address any issues or challenges.

Mechanical Installation and Maintenance:
- Oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems and equipment, such as HVAC, plumbing, pumps, motors, conveyors, and pressure systems.
- Ensure that mechanical work is performed according to plans, specifications, and industry standards.
- Troubleshoot mechanical failures, coordinate repairs, and ensure systems are operational.

Quality Control:
- Ensure the quality of work meets company standards and industry codes (e.g., ASME, ISO).
- Inspect completed work to verify that it complies with safety standards and technical requirements.
- Document inspections, quality reports, and any discrepancies found during inspections or testing.

Safety and Compliance:
- Enforce strict safety guidelines and ensure that workers follow proper safety protocols, including PPE (personal protective equipment) usage and hazard recognition.
- Monitor work areas to ensure that safety practices are followed and report any safety violations.
- Ensure compliance with local, national, and international standards and regulations, such as OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) or other relevant authorities.
- Conduct safety audits and accident investigations when needed.

Project Coordination and Scheduling:
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other departments to ensure proper coordination of mechanical activities.
- Assist in planning and scheduling work, ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Monitor labor and equipment usage to ensure efficient use of resources and minimize downtime.

Material and Tool Management:
- Ensure that necessary materials, parts, tools, and equipment are available and in good working condition for mechanical tasks.
- Maintain inventory of mechanical tools and equipment, and track usage to prevent shortages or overstocking.
- Order supplies and materials as required for the smooth operation of the project.

Training and Development:
- Provide training to new workers and junior technicians on mechanical systems, safety procedures, and best practices.
- Mentor team members to help develop their skills and ensure they meet company standards.
- Conduct on-the-job training and evaluate team performance.

Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including time sheets, material usage, and equipment maintenance.
