Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

  1. Coating Systems Knowledge: Understanding various coating types (e.g., epoxy, polyurethane) and their applications.
  2. Surface Preparation Techniques: Familiarity with methods such as blasting, cleaning, and priming.
  3. Technical Specifications: Interpreting technical drawings, work scopes, and coating specifications.
  4. Material Estimation: Calculating the quantity of materials (e.g., paint, primers) and tools required for projects.
  5. Equipment Knowledge: Familiarity with coating application tools, sprayers, and inspection equipment.

Planning and Organizational Skills

  1. Project Planning: Developing detailed plans and schedules for coating projects.
  2. Resource Management: Allocating personnel, materials, and equipment effectively.
  3. Time Management: Ensuring tasks are completed within deadlines.
  4. Work Breakdown Structure: Breaking down projects into manageable tasks.
  5. Inventory Control: Tracking and managing coating supplies and consumables.

Quality Assurance and Safety Skills

  1. Quality Control: Ensuring coating applications meet industry standards and client requirements.
  2. Inspection Techniques: Using tools like dry film thickness gauges and adhesion testers.
  3. Health and Safety: Knowledge of safety protocols, including hazardous material handling and confined space work.
  4. Compliance Standards: Familiarity with standards like ISO 12944 or SSPC.
  5. Environmental Regulations: Ensuring environmentally safe practices, such as proper waste disposal.

Communication Skills

  1. Team Coordination: Liaising with painters, supervisors, and project managers.
  2. Client Communication: Updating clients on project progress and addressing concerns.
  3. Documentation: Preparing reports, checklists, and work orders.
  4. Supplier Interaction: Coordinating with vendors for timely delivery of materials.
  5. Instruction Delivery: Providing clear guidance to the workforce on procedures and standards.

Problem-Solving Skills

  1. Troubleshooting: Addressing challenges like coating failures, delays, or material shortages.
  2. Adaptability: Adjusting plans to accommodate unexpected changes.
  3. Critical Thinking: Evaluating potential solutions and making informed decisions.

Technical Tools

  1. Project Management Software: Using tools like Microsoft Project or Primavera.
  2. ERP Systems: Familiarity with systems for resource planning and tracking.
  3. Inspection Tools: Proficiency with gauges and other testing equipment.
  4. Spreadsheet Tools: Advanced Excel skills for material tracking and scheduling.

Desired candidate profile

  • Identify the scope of work from Owner’s specifications, tenders, work lists and on-board inspections.
  • Preparation of Sketch as agreed by the owner for blasting.
  • Preparation of work processes and paint specification .
  • Collating, updating and filing all relevant productions progress.
  • Raise materials requisitions as required.
  • Prepare Man-hours estimation for work processes.
  • Liaison with Owner representative, project manager, Invoicer, other trades.
  • Maintain good working relationship with workers, appointed foreman, supervisors and management.
  • Perform duties of a Foreman as required / appointed for individual projects.
  • Ensure all paint specs are sign and distributed to foremen. .
  • Work within allocated timescale to meet department targets.
  • Attend any training for any activity required by the department.
  • Maintain good housekeeping in all work areas.
  • Follow the day-to-day operations related to own job to ensure continuity of work

Qualification/Experiences & Skills

  • Experience in Ship repair, New Building and Marine Field
  • 2 to 3 years of relevant experience.
