Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

The Content Editor will craft compelling, engaging, and conversion-driven English marketing copy for push notifications, newsletters, paid ads, banners, blogs, and more. This role is pivotal in delivering consistent, high-quality communications across all digital platforms (e-commerce, emails, marketplace), ensuring alignment with GMG Sports’ brand tone and SEO best practices. Collaborating closely with marketing, design, and product teams, the Content Editor inspires, informs, and delights customers, helping them make informed purchase decisions. Strong English skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced e-commerce environment are essential for success in this role.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop, write and edit engaging marketing copy for push notifications, newsletters, paid ads banners, blogs, and other digital marketing platforms for Sun & Sand Sports and Under Armour.
  • Collaborate with marketing and design teams to ensure consistency in messaging and brand voice across all customer touchpoints.
  • Conduct research on product features, industry trends, and target audience to tailor copy that drives engagement and sales.
  • Optimise content for SEO where applicable, ensuring visibility across search engines and digital channels.
  • Proofread and edit copy to ensure grammatical accuracy, tone consistency, and brand alignment.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to ensure that content aligns with ongoing campaigns, product launches, and seasonal promotions.
  • Monitor and report on content performance metrics, adjusting strategies to improve engagement and conversion rates.
  • Manage deadlines and multitask efficiently to support the company's fast-paced marketing calendar.

Functional/Technical Competencies:

  • Strong proficiency in writing and editing English marketing copy, with a deep understanding of tone, voice, and messaging that resonates with e-commerce audiences, especially in the sports segment.
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices to optimise digital content for search engines, ensuring increased visibility and traffic for key products and promotions.
  • Excellent proofreading skills to ensure all content is free from grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, and inconsistencies in tone or voice.
  • Ability to manage multiple content projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and maintaining quality across all digital touchpoints.
  • Ability to monitor content performance metrics, such as open rates and click-through rates, to inform content adjustments and improvements.
  • Strong ability to think creatively and propose new content ideas or approaches to enhance brand visibility and engagement.
  • Understanding of the unique demands of an e-commerce environment, especially in terms of promotional cadence, seasonal marketing, and product launch schedules.

Experience:

2+ years of experience in content creation or copywriting for digital platforms, preferably within the e-commerce or retail industry.

  • Develop Content Strategies: Work closely with the editorial and marketing teams to develop content strategies that align with business goals, target audience needs, and SEO best practices.
  • Editorial Calendar Management: Create and maintain a content calendar to ensure timely delivery of content. This involves planning editorial cycles, special campaigns, and ongoing content needs.
  • Content Direction: Define the tone, style, and voice for different types of content across various platforms, ensuring consistency and alignment with the brand identity.

2. Content Creation and Editing

  • Write and Edit Content: Produce high-quality written content, from articles and blog posts to product descriptions, social media copy, and more. Ensure the content is clear, engaging, and well-structured.
  • Oversee Editorial Quality: Review and edit content written by other team members, providing constructive feedback, ensuring grammatical accuracy, and maintaining high editorial standards.
  • Fact-Checking: Verify facts and ensure the accuracy of the content, especially for specialized topics requiring expert knowledge.

3. Team Leadership and Collaboration

  • Mentor Junior Editors and Writers: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior content editors and writers, helping them refine their writing skills, understand editorial guidelines, and improve their content.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work with other departments like marketing, SEO, design, and social media to ensure content is optimized for all platforms and is cohesive across different channels.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Liaise with internal stakeholders, such as product teams, executives, and other content creators, to align content with business priorities and ensure smooth project execution.

4. SEO and Digital Content Optimization

  • SEO Best Practices: Ensure that content is optimized for search engines by incorporating keywords, meta tags, and on-page SEO elements in accordance with the latest SEO trends.
  • Audience Engagement: Tailor content to resonate with the target audience, using insights from analytics, audience research, and competitor analysis.
  • Content Performance Analysis: Track the performance of published content using analytics tools, adjusting strategies based on key metrics such as traffic, engagement, and conversions.

5. Brand Voice and Content Guidelines

  • Consistency in Brand Messaging: Maintain consistency in the brand’s voice, ensuring that all content across different channels follows a unified message and aligns with the brand’s tone.
  • Create Content Guidelines: Develop and update comprehensive content guidelines for the team, ensuring that writing, formatting, and style meet company standards.
  • Content Audits: Conduct content audits periodically to ensure that existing content is up to date, relevant, and aligned with the current editorial strategy.

6. Project Management

  • Coordinate Content Production: Oversee the workflow of content production from conception to publication, ensuring deadlines are met and resources are allocated effectively.
  • Review and Approve Final Content: Before publishing, approve content drafts to ensure that they meet editorial guidelines, brand standards, and business objectives.
  • Manage Multiple Projects: Juggle multiple editorial projects simultaneously, ensuring that each piece of content is delivered on time and up to the required standard.

7. Editorial Innovation and Trend Monitoring

  • Stay Updated on Trends: Monitor industry trends, competitors, and emerging content formats (e.g., video, podcasts, etc.) to keep the content strategy fresh and relevant.
  • Innovate Content Types: Experiment with new types of content (e.g., interactive content, webinars) to engage audiences in unique ways and diversify the content offerings.
  • Content Personalization: Implement strategies for content personalization based on audience behavior and preferences.
