Job Description
- Demonstrates competence with the care, assessment and management of patients in multi-organ failure including the prevention of complications.
- Demonstrates competence with the care and assessment of patients in sepsis and septic shock, and multi-organ failure including the prevention of complications.
- Implements the sepsis pathway with the multidisciplinary team and demonstrates knowledge in the nurses’ role within this pathway.
- Demonstrates knowledge and competence with the care and management of ventilated patients including the prevention of complications.
- Demonstrates knowledge on invasive hemodynamic monitoring.
- Demonstrates knowledge on the medications indications, contra-indications, effect and side effects, i: e inotropic support, vasopressors and sedation.
- Demonstrates knowledge and competence with the care and management of patients requiring CRRT including the prevention of complications.
- Demonstrates knowledge and competence of the prevention of Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) and is consistently compliant with VAP bundles.
- Demonstrates knowledge and competence of the prevention of Central Line Associated Blood Stream Infections (CLABSI) and is consistently compliant with CLABSI bundles.
- Demonstrates competence in administering intravenous fluids and medications as per Physicians order.
- Monitor patients’ fluid intake and output to detect emerging problems such as fluid and electrolyte imbalances.
- Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet, physical activity and wound care.
- Assist physicians with procedures such as bronchoscopy, endoscopy, endotracheal intubation, and elective cardioversion.
- Ensure that equipment or devices are properly disinfected and stored after use.
- Collaborating with the MDT critical care team.
- Assess patients’ pain levels and sedation requirements.
- Prioritize nursing care for assigned critically ill patients based on assessment data and identified needs.
- Providing education and support to patient families.
