Job Overview
Transport patients in a safe and efficient manner throughout the hospital under the direction of supervisory personnel. Utilizes the automated transport system to perform duties. Performs routine cleaning of equipment used to transport patients. Adheres to universal infection control practices. Practices excellent customer service skills with all patients, visitors and employees. Transports deceased to the morgue.
Qualifications
Preferred
- Previous patient transport experience is preferred and you must have excellent customer service skills
Scheduling Requirements
- Shift working, 6:00am-2:30pm, 7:00am-3:30pm, 8:00am-4:30pm, 9am-5:30p & 10am-6:30pm
- Days to work vary
- Per Diem
- Essential Functions:
- Maintains a level of attendance and punctuality to meet the demands of the job. Reports to work in uniform, ID badge, pager, etc. in accordance with departmental policy. Maintains the minimum department standard of 2.6 transport per hour
- Transporting Patients
- Advises nurse, nurse designee or technician when arrives on floor
- Introduces self to patients
- Transporter always checks the patient's ID band for the two identifiers before transporting the patient (Name and Date of Birth)
- Assists the nurse or technician in transferring the patient from the bed to the transport equipment or vice versa
- Use caution when rounding corners.
- Ensures brakes are used when transferring from a stretcher and/or wheelchair
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information
- Maintains safety of patients
- Identifies appropriate situations to seek assistance from nursing staff and/or security
- Recognizes and reports patient discomfort, distress or emergency situations to the nurse or technician.
- Always follow infection control and handwashing precaution before, during and after a transport
