Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Accounting Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
- Records and reconciles more complex accounting transactions.
- Examines and records actions performed in the workflow and routes to auditors.
- Reconciles more complex bank accounts in various currencies.
- Assists in the processing of monthly payroll closing, cost-of-living adjustments, and AP accounting. This includes, amongst other things, calculating, inputting, and checking payments for correctness and communicating discrepancies to supervisors.
- Assists in processing payments to UNJSPF beneficiaries for their entitlements. Type of transactions are all payroll and miscellaneous payments such as PI update, suspension, reinstatement, deletion, and reissuance payments.
- Drafts/prepares communication to UNJSPF pension beneficiaries and to relevant other work units in the UNJSPF and prints/mails out mass communication letters.
- Responds to queries from staff members and third parties.
- Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
- Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
- Performs other duties as may be required

Work Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to 3 for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in pension-related fields is desirable. Experience in preparing international (SWIFT) payments is desirable. Experience in payroll processing is desirable. 1 year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
