About the opportunity


Role Summary

The Product Design Director for talabats Shopping and Growth tribe is a strategic leader responsible for shaping the user experience and driving growth within the product. This role involves leading the design strategy managing teams of senior managers and designers innovating solutions to enhance usability and satisfaction advocating for usercentered design and collaborating effectively with crossfunctional teams to deliver impactful design solutions and business impact.

Whats on Your Plate

Interaction Design

Shapes the flow and behavior of the shopping platform and monetization of the product to enhance usability and satisfaction.

  • Critical Competencies:

    • Design Patterns & UX Principles: Applying and understanding them effectively within the product.

    • Information Architecture: Organizing and relating information across the shopping platform with consideration of critical growth products.

    • Content: Defining content types and structure tailored to specific markets within the shopping platform with consideration of growth products and monetization opportunities

    • Prototypes: Creating prototypes at various fidelity levels to communicate design concepts within the Shopping and Growth tribes.

Proficiency Level:

  • Proposes innovative solutions showcasing strong understanding of the shopping and growth specific products

  • Leads teams responsible for designing complex interactions managing their complexity within the Shopping and Growth products.

  • Defines and advocates standards for content quality within the Shopping and Growth products as well as the wider product portfolio.

  • Manages and leads teams of senior managers and senior designers to ensure alignment and support within the Shopping and Growth tribe is well delivered

Visual Design

Defines the presentation layers of the Shopping and Growth products in line with the brand.

  • Critical Competencies:

    • Design Principles: Adhering to product and brand design principles

    • Microinteractions and Motion Design

    • Design System Adoption within the shopping platform

Proficiency Level:

  • Expert in designing for different mediums

  • Shapes and evolution of the product design system by with contributing valuable insights and learnings gained from the Shopping and Growth tribe

  • Provides leadership and coaching to senior managers and senior designers within the Visual Design team of the Shopping and Growth tribe.

Experience Design

Draws on users needs feelings contexts and mindsets to design endtoend experiences within the shopping platform and considers critical monetization and growth products as part of the thinking

  • Critical Competencies:

    • Guides the build of User Journey Mapping and Service Blueprints within the Shopping and Growth tribe.

    • Guides the Emotional Design and Accessibility within the Shopping and Growth products.

Proficiency Level:

  • Recognized as a thought leader in experience design within the Product and Engineering Leadership of the Shopping and Growth tribe .

  • Advocates for inclusive design and accessibility mentoring others within the Shopping and Growth tribe.

  • Leads and manages teams of senior managers and senior designers providing guidance and support within the Experience Design domain of the Shopping and Growth tribe.

Problem Discovery

Identifies and understands underlying issues or challenges within the Shopping and Growth products.

  • Critical Competencies:

    • Ensures Empathy and User Research is effectively utilized within the Shopping and Growth tribe.

Proficiency Level:

  • Identifies new problems and opportunities across domains and tribes significantly impacting the Shopping and Growth products evolution.

  • Serves as a mentor training others in problem discovery methods within the Shopping and Growth tribe.

  • Leads teams of senior managers and senior designers in problem discovery efforts within the Shopping and Growth tribe.


Communication

Conveys ideas and design concepts effectively within the Shopping and Growth product.

  • Critical Competencies:

  • Expert in Storytelling and Visual Communication within the Shopping and Growth product.

  • Expert in Negotiation and Actionable Deliverables within the Shopping and Growth product leadership.

Proficiency Level:

  • Sets industry standards in narrative crafting and negotiation within the Shopping and Growth tribes.

  • Trains and coaches others effectively in communication within the Shopping and Growth tribe.

  • Leads communication efforts with senior managers and senior designers to ensure alignment and clarity within the product design tasks across the Shopping and Growth tribe.

Collaboration

Works effectively with crossfunctional teams within the Shopping and Growth tribe.

  • Critical Competencies:

    • Design Critique and Facilitation within the Shopping and Growth tribe.

    • Evangelizing UserCentered Design within the Shopping and Growth tribe.

    • Design Documentation & Handoff within the Shopping and Growth tribe.

Proficiency Level:

  • Seamlessly integrates with crossfunctional teams guiding collaborative efforts within the Shopping and Growth tribe.

  • Drives innovation and nurtures inclusive environments within the Shopping and Growth tribe.

  • Manages and leads collaborative efforts with senior managers and senior designers to ensure effective design outcomes within the Shopping and Growth tribe.

What Did We Order

Preferred candidates will be:

Work experience:

  • Leadership Experience within the field of product design or user experience ideally with a proven track record of successfully leading design teams and driving strategic initiatives.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in product design user experience design interaction design or a related field.
  • Previous experience working in the ecommerce or technology industry is highly desirable as it provides insights into the unique challenges and opportunities within the digital product landscape.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating effectively with crossfunctional teams including product management engineering marketing and data analytics to deliver impactful design solutions.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing a history of successful design projects including examples of innovative solutions usercentered design approaches and measurable impact on business goals.
  • Experience in mentoring and developing design talent as well as fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture.

Technical Background:

  • Proficiency in Design Tools: Mastery of design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite Sketch Figma or similar tools is essential for creating prototypes and design assets.
  • Understanding of FrontEnd Development: While not necessarily a requirement having a basic understanding of frontend development technologies (HTML CSS JavaScript) can be advantageous in collaborating effectively with engineering teams.
  • Knowledge of Design Systems: Experience in developing and maintaining design systems to ensure consistency and scalability across products.
  • Familiarity with UX Research Methods: Understanding of various UX research methods such as user interviews usability testing and user journey mapping to inform design decisions.
  • Educational Background:
  • Masters degree in Design or related field: interaction design user experience design or a related field
  • Continuous Learning: Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with the latest trends tools and best practices in the field of product design and user experience.
