The technician provides multiple alternative recommendations for repair and replacement of necessary mechanical and/or electric parts for garage doors. Sells appropriate services or replacement options. Interacts with customers on a daily basis providing them with excellent customer service.

Responsibilities:
- Ensures truck is cleaned, fueled, serviced, and restocked with appropriate materials, parts, and tools prior to the beginning of each workday; verifies address at customer locations
- Contacts customers to communicate estimated arrival time
- Drives to job sites while observing all posted speed limits; uses professional driving techniques whenever operating company vehicles
- Reads and understands instruction manuals prior to installing all products
- Installs doors and associated system components as indicated on work orders; checks for proper door installation, clearances, and balances; checks for appropriate UL 325 operator reversing operation; checks all set screws, rollers, cables and balances, and horizontal and vertical track settings; and oils and lubricates all rollers and springs with proper motor oil
- Resolves problems encountered during installation in a creative, safe, and timely manner
- Places appropriate stickers on doors and operators
- Cleans up thoroughly and leaves work site clean and neat always exceeding customer expectations
- Works in a safe manner on all jobs sites and promptly informs supervisor when additional help is required.
- Notifies manager of any injuries sustained while on the job (within one hour); consults with the manager to determine if any injury requires mandatory drug testing and reporting to test facility
- Collects payment from customer; ensures appropriate signatures are on all paperwork; explains how door and operator works, if customer is present
- Provides copies of all paperwork to the customer, including but not limited to the safety inspection, warranty, and thank you letter
- Records all work order information, all materials used, installation comments (headroom or other problems), dates, serial and key numbers for each job; notes what actions need to be taken if the job cannot be finished or is not completed; reviews work order information for accuracy and completeness
- Returns extra material to its appropriate place in the warehouse or on the truck; places trash in proper containers; ensures doors and gates are closed when leaving
- Notifies supervisor of any required vehicle repairs in writing within 24 hours; hands in fuel and repair receipts regularly; turns in pay sheets and payments within 24 hours
- Provides data for, payroll, truck maintenance, operation expenses and service, and safety and accident reporting
- Provides emergency service to customers as necessary
- Attends and participates in all required and requested safety meetings and training sessions in addition to weekly company meetings; obeys all safety rules
- Performs a variety of secondary support tasks as requested by the manager to include unloading of trucks and supporting other personnel
- Reviews final check-list with customer to ensure that all questions and concerns are addressed and reduce reasons for call-backs
Qualifications & Skills:
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 5 years of garage door installation required
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and excellent driving record.
- Knowledge of garage door track alignment, track adjustment, horizontal leveling, adequate back hangs, operator arms, and photo eye setting
- Skill in installing garage doors, openers, and related components
- Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions or approaches to problems
- Ability to provide excellent customer service by assessing customer needs, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluating customer satisfaction
- Ability to appropriately adapt one’s thinking or approach as situations change
- Ability to use an assortment of mechanical tools and devices
- Ability to identify specific brands of doors, openers, keyless entry systems, and related components
- Ability to safely drive a pick-up truck during the day, at night, and in inclement weather conditions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Ability to follow complex instructions and communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Ability to organize work for timely completion
