The Role:
We are seeking a Consultant Paediatrician to join a supportive regional Hospital in South Australia.
Indicative Total Remuneration up to $487,139 p.a
As a senior member of the paediatric team, you will provide clinical expertise in the Department of Paediatrics. This will include oversight and management of children in the Emergency Department, inpatients, neonatal nursery and outpatients, and community consultations.
You will oversee the Child Development Unit and mandated child protection responsibilities. As part of your role, you will supervise the clinical practice of General Practice paediatricians and junior medical staff, as well as undertaking active engagement in the education of all health staff affiliated with the service.
You will contribute to Continuous Quality Improvement activities including clinical audit and morbidity and mortality review. It is expected that you will actively take part in continuing education activities.
Provide a professional medical service in accordance with Regional, Hospital and departmental policy manuals and documents, and within the Professional standards of the Australasian College for Paediatric Medicine.
Active involvement in teaching trainee medical officers, interns and medical students and, where appropriate, nursing and allied health.
Participation in clinical audit and quality, safety and clinical risk management.

The Hospital:
You will be working at the largest hospital in rural South Australia, a 98-bed teaching hospital, which provides a range of services, including a 24-hour accident and emergency, acute inpatient, elective surgery, emergency surgery, birthing, paediatric and mental health services, and associated clinical support.
There are 37 medical beds, 27 surgical beds, a 6-bed High Dependency unit, a 20-bed maternity-paediatric ward and a 6-bed mental health unit. Facilities are provided for chemotherapy, dialysis and day surgery. The hospital has 4 operating theatres, 12-day surgery chairs and 3 delivery suites.

Situated halfway between Adelaide and Melbourne and is the second most populated in south Australia. The community is most welcoming, and the area hosts some of the most beautiful natural attractions.
This thriving city is located mid-way between Adelaide and Melbourne, just within the border of South Australia. The streets and houses are built around the slopes of an extinct volcano 27 km from the sea, with the city climbing almost to the lip of the famous Blue Lake, and the outskirts extending on to the rich volcanic soil of the surrounding plain.
The city itself boasts beautiful parks and gardens, caves and sinkholes. There is an interesting mix of galleries, museums and local markets with plenty of cafes and restaurants to cater for everyone’s tastes. The city has affordable housing and a high-quality selection of primary and secondary government and non-government schools.
ESSENTIAL:
You will have Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians – Paediatric Medicine, or an equivalent specialist qualification.
You will have sound knowledge of contemporary paediatric practice and procedures and demonstrate skills in the investigation and care of paediatric patients. With the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team, you will possess high level skills in problem solving and decision making at both the clinical and the individual level.
