About Tungasuvvingat Inuit

Career Opportunity Internal/External Early Years Program Coordinator Full Time End Date March 31, 2027 It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit, and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. With over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services, TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population. Reporting to the Manager of Early Years, the Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the implementation and operations of Early Years program that will ensure all Inuit children and families in contact with Early years have access to Inuit-specific services and supports. Responsibilities: Develop, implement and manage a centralized intake, and Early Years assessment and referral process. Respond to all EarlyON notifications and participate in initial case consultations, following up with appropriate TI departments for supports. Conduct intake and initial assessment, assign files to the appropriate case managers at TI and other organizations that are part of the EarlyON program network, and make program referrals as appropriate. Maintain accurate client records on TI's case management system. Coordinate the annual gathering of Early Years staff. Identify and coordinate the delivery of training and learning opportunities for Early Years program staff. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other Early Years programs and agencies and assist in development of protocols and partnership agreement. Identify service gaps and opportunities, identify systems level issues and participate in advocacy and other efforts to resolve these issues. Support with compiling of reports for Early Years and support with providing input for reports to funders. Provide cultural advice to the management, case managers, and other team members. Support team in building and assessing cultural resources. Support in providing mentoring, coaching and development for team members. Assist in the development of Early Years Programs operational policies and procedures and provide oversight in operational matters related to EarlyON programs and services. Participate in program design and program planning; assist in the implementation and delivery of project initiatives. Participate in and represent TI on working groups, as required. Other duties as required. Qualifications The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of Inuit culture, values, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and traditional healing methods and practices. Must have knowledge of Inuit governance organizations and structures in Canada, child welfare system in Ontario particularly as it pertains to Inuit children, youth and families. Exceptional communication skills (both verbal and written), facilitation skills, interpersonal skills, problem solving, consensus building, conflict resolution skills and time management skills are required. The ability to handle difficult and painful emotional situations and establish healthy boundaries with community members to ensure self-care is a requirement of this position. The ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities while meeting assigned deadlines, to maintain accurate and up‐to‐date client records and attention to detail is required. Completion of undergraduate Degree in Social Work, Child Welfare, Human Services, or a related field or equivalent is required. Five years’ experience is required in providing services to children, youth and/or families. Three years' experience working in or with child and family services in Ottawa e.g. assisting children, and families to navigate the child and family services systems is required. 2 Years of experience working with Inuit children, youth and/or families, elders is required. 2 Years of case management, program design and development of processes and procedures, coordination of events and working groups is required. Proficient use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, video-conferencing platforms and electronic records management applications and a clear Vulnerable Sector Check with results acceptable to TI is required. Ability to travel within the city and out of town as required. The ability to speak Inuktitut is preferred. A valid driver’s license is required. Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position.
