Associate Director, Hilary Ballon Center for Teaching and Learning (HBCTL)
Job Summary
The Associate Director of the Hilary Ballon Center for Teaching and Learning (HBCTL) partners with faculty academic staff and institutional collaborators across NYU Abu Dhabi to advance inclusive innovative and evidence-informed teaching practices within a global liberal arts context. Reporting to the Director of HBCTL the Associate Director contributes to faculty development pedagogical innovation assessment and curriculum support interdisciplinary collaboration and teaching initiatives that respond to evolving educational challenges including the impact of emerging technologies and generative AI on student learning and foundational skill development.
The Associate Director also plays a key role in fostering faculty dialogue and community around teaching and learning supporting reflective teaching practice and student-centered experiential approaches that strengthen student engagement belonging and academic success.
Appointment Term
This appointment is for a one-year term beginning September 1 2026 and ending August 31 2027 with the possibility of renewal for an additional year.
Key Responsibilities
Faculty Development and Pedagogical Support
- Identify emerging pedagogical topics and coordinate speakers and facilitators for in-person and online faculty development workshops seminars and teaching institutes.
- Consult with faculty individually and in groups on emerging needs students challenges course and syllabus design assignment and assessment development inclusive teaching practices and evidence-informed pedagogical approaches.
- Support faculty in developing assessments and learning experiences that are AI-cognizant aligned with learning outcomes and attentive to foundational skill
- development academic integrity and universal design principles.
- Conduct classroom observations and provide formative verbal and written feedback to faculty when appropriate.
- Support faculty in integrating experiential learning active learning and student-centered pedagogies into course design and classroom practice.
Educational Innovation and Strategic Initiatives - Organize faculty teaching showcases panel discussions and community dialogue events on timely issues in higher education and teaching and learning including generative AI assessment redesign large-course teaching and teaching diverse learners.
- Contribute to institutional conversations and initiatives related to teaching learning educational technology and student learning experiences.
- Support the development of pedagogical resources guidance documents newsletters and web-based teaching materials related to best practices in higher education teaching and learning.
- Collaborate on initiatives related to the scholarship of teaching and learning assessment innovation and emerging educational challenges.
Interdisciplinary and Institutional Collaboration - Develop and coordinate networks of faculty expertise across disciplines to support interdisciplinary teaching initiatives including consultation for Core Curriculum and other cross-disciplinary courses.
- Collaborate with academic support units faculty leaders and institutional partners across NYU Abu Dhabi to advance shared teaching and learning priorities.
- Build relationships and collaborate with Centers for Teaching and Learning and related organizations regionally and internationally to exchange ideas share best practices and explore collaborative opportunities.
Additional Responsibilities - Contribute to HBCTL strategic planning and program development.
- Participate in university committees and initiatives related to teaching and learning as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- NYUAD faculty. Faculty from the Social Sciences Arts and Humanities are especially encouraged to apply in order to support broad disciplinary representation within HBCTL.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and a strong understanding of pedagogical practices.
- Experience with faculty development curriculum design assessment design or educational innovation initiatives.
- Strong interpersonal facilitation and collaborative skills.
- Interest in emerging technologies and their implications for teaching and learning including generative AI.
