Purpose of the Job:
We are seeking a hands-on practical and field-oriented Safety Officer to support health and safety management activities at a wastewater treatment plant. The role requires strong on-site presence proactive hazard identification and direct engagement with site teams. Desktop-only profiles will not be considered. Female candidates are encouraged to apply.
Job Responsibilities:
- Actively monitor and enforce HSE compliance on site with a strong focus on field inspections and workforce engagement.
- Identify assess and control hazards specific to wastewater treatment facilities including confined spaces biological hazards chemicals sludge handling gases (e.g. HS) and mechanical equipment.
- Conduct daily site safety inspections toolbox talks and safety briefings.
- Support the implementation of risk assessments method statements (RAMS) and permit-to-work systems.
- Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to site safety procedures at all times.
- Investigate incidents near misses and unsafe conditions; prepare reports and recommend corrective actions.
- Liaise closely with site management contractors and workers to promote a strong safety culture.
- Assist with emergency preparedness drills and response procedures relevant to wastewater operations.
- Maintain accurate HSE records and ensure compliance with local regulations and project requirements.
Key Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Safety Officer on industrial infrastructure utilities or wastewater treatment projects.
- Strong field-based experience with direct exposure to operational environments (not desk-based only).
- Solid knowledge of wastewater treatment plant hazards and control measures.
- Familiarity with confined space entry chemical handling biological hazards and heavy equipment safety.
- Relevant HSE qualification (e.g. NEBOSH IGC IOSH or equivalent).
- Ability to communicate effectively with site teams and enforce safety standards diplomatically and confidently.
- Willingness to work in a wastewater treatment environment without restrictions.
- Experience working on live operational plants or brownfield sites.
- Strong practical mindset with a proactive and solution-driven approach.
- Multinational site experience is an advantage.
