Job Summary:
A Steel Fixer is responsible for cutting bending and installing steel bars or mesh in concrete forms to reinforce structures. This role is vital in ensuring the structural strength and safety of buildings bridges and other infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:

Read and interpret construction drawings blueprints and technical plans

Cut shape and bend steel bars using hand tools power tools and machinery
-
Tie rebar (reinforcing bars) using wire and pliers
-
Place and secure steel bars in formwork before concrete is poured
-
Assemble prefabricated rebar cages for columns beams and slabs
-
Ensure correct spacing and alignment of steel reinforcements
-
Follow safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE at all times
-
Work closely with engineers supervisors and other site workers
Skills & Qualifications:
-
Proven experience as a Steel Fixer or relevant role in construction
-
Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and bar bending schedules (BBS)
-
Good knowledge of rebar tying techniques and tools
-
Strong physical stamina and attention to detail
-
Awareness of safety and health regulations
-
NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Steel Fixing is a plus
Work Conditions:
-
Work is physically demanding often outdoors in all weather conditions
-
May involve working at heights or in confined spaces
-
Standard work hours with occasional overtime
