Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated GIS Database Administrator to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design implementation and maintenance of our Enterprise Geo-databases on the Microsoft SQL Server platform. This role is critical to ensure the integrity performance and accessibility of our Assets spatial data. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Spatial Databases and ArcGIS SDE platform and its integration with SQL Server specifically in the context of Infrastructure asset management.
Key Responsibilities
- Database Design and Management:
- Design implement and maintain enterprise geodatabases in a Microsoft SQL Server environment.
- Develop and enforce database standards naming conventions and best practices for spatial data.
- Manage database security including user access roles and permissions in accordance with company policies.
- Perform regular database maintenance tasks including backups restores and recovery plans to ensure data integrity and availability.
- Monitor and optimize database performance and capacity implementing tuning strategies as needed.
- Data and System Integration:
- Administer and manage the ArcGIS Enterprise Geodatabases in co-ordination with IT
- Manage the integration of GIS data with other business systems such as asset management and project management (INFOR).
- Develop and maintain ETL (Extract Transform Load) processes for importing and exporting spatial and tabular data from various sources.
- Spatial Data Management:
- Administer and manage versioned and non-versioned spatial data for our road network including linear referencing systems (LRS) Road asset inventories (e.g. signs signals bridges etc) and also Irrigation and Storm water Networks datasets.
- Ensure the accuracy and currency of our assets datasets.
- Implement and manage quality control and quality assurance (QA/QC) procedures for all spatial data.
- Technical Support and Collaboration:
- Provide expert-level technical support to GIS analysts engineers planners and other stakeholders who utilize spatial data.
- Troubleshoot and resolve GIS database and service-related issues in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with the IT infrastructure team to ensure the underlying server and network infrastructure meets the demands of the Infrastructure Assets environment.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for database architecture procedures and workflows.
Qualifications :
Education:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science / IT / GIS or a related field. A Masters degree is a plus.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience as a GIS Database Administrator in an enterprise environment.
- Proven experience with Microsoft SQL Server administration including performance tuning security and backup/recovery.
- Extensive hands-on experience with the Esri Enterprise Geodatabase including Arc GIS Desktop / ArcGIS Pro ArcGIS Enterprise Server and ArcGIS Online.
- Demonstrable experience in managing enterprise geodatabases (ArcSDE).
- Experience working with Road and Infra Assets related spatial data is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with road and Asset infrastructure management principles is a significant advantage.
Technical Skills
- Database Systems: Expert knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and experience with Oracle is plus.
- GIS Software: Proficiency with Esri ArcMap ArcGIS Pro ArcGIS Enterprise Server and Data Store.
- Spatial SQL: Strong proficiency in writing and optimizing complex SQL queries with spatial data types.
- Scripting and Automation: Experience with Python for automating geoprocessing and data management tasks is an advantage.
- ETL Tools (Optional but preferred): Experience with FME (Safe Software) or similar data integration tools.
