Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

Principal Resident Engineer who is accountable for the operational performance, technical and people leadership of the project supervision team and electrical power network team projects for WSP in UAE and beyond

Your new role, what's involved?

  • Define Electrical Engineering strategies and undertake feasibility works across numerous project types in UAE
  • Develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity
  • Undertake project documentation reviews and checking in accordance with QA procedures
  • Lead the project and undertake line manager responsibility for the project supervision team
  • Ensure that Health & Safety is embedded into all work practices in line with company policies
  • Ensure the right resources are utilized effectively at the right time in projects Including engaging with the Complimentary Resource Centers (CRCs) to ensure that communication and design and review processes are continually improved and achieve required targets with expected quality.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.
  • Proven experience as a Resident Engineer Electrical in large infrastructure or construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of Electrical engineering principles and practices.
  • Excellent project management and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Experience and proven ability to lead and manage an engineering team in multi-disciplinary projects with teams based across multiple locations around the globe
  • Dynamic and like to challenge the norm by finding new and innovative ways to get my work done without compromising on quality
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of local and international construction codes and regulations.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • AADC or ADDC experience is mandatory

Desired candidate profile

1. Project Oversight and Leadership

  • Lead Electrical Team: Supervise, guide, and manage a team of electrical engineers and technicians on-site, ensuring high-quality electrical work and efficient site operations.
  • Coordinate with Stakeholders: Act as the primary point of contact between the client, contractors, electrical engineers, and other project stakeholders to ensure clear communication and smooth execution of the project.
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure that electrical installations comply with the project’s electrical design, specifications, codes, and all relevant regulations and standards (such as National Electrical Code (NEC), IEC, or local electrical codes).

2. Design Implementation and Quality Control

  • Review Electrical Designs: Oversee the implementation of electrical designs and plans on-site, ensuring proper execution according to the approved drawings and specifications.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct inspections and assessments of electrical installations, including wiring, panel boards, circuit breakers, lighting systems, and other electrical components, to ensure they meet the required quality standards.
  • Approval of Materials: Approve electrical materials and equipment, ensuring they meet the required specifications, are of good quality, and are sourced from reputable suppliers.

3. Site Supervision and Management

  • Monitor Electrical Work: Supervise electrical contractors and subcontractors to ensure that work is carried out according to the design, within schedule, and in compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot Issues: Address and resolve any electrical issues or discrepancies that arise on-site, working with engineers and contractors to find solutions and avoid delays.
  • Ensure Safety Standards: Enforce safety regulations on the electrical worksite, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to electrical safety protocols.

4. Testing and Commissioning

  • Oversee Testing: Ensure that all electrical systems, including power distribution systems, lighting, emergency backup systems, and control systems, undergo thorough testing before final commissioning.
  • Troubleshoot and Correct Deficiencies: Supervise the resolution of any electrical deficiencies identified during testing and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • System Integration: Ensure that electrical systems are integrated and functioning as part of the broader building or infrastructure systems, coordinating with other engineering disciplines.

5. Regulatory and Code Compliance

  • Compliance with Electrical Codes: Ensure that all electrical work complies with local and international codes and standards, including safety regulations and environmental guidelines.
  • Permit and Inspection Management: Coordinate with local authorities for the necessary inspections and approvals for electrical systems, including obtaining permits for installation and ensuring that the work passes regulatory inspections.

6. Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain Records: Oversee the preparation and maintenance of detailed documentation, including daily progress reports, site logs, change orders, and incident reports related to electrical work.
  • Progress Reporting: Provide regular progress updates to the project manager and client regarding the status of electrical installations, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Reporting Deficiencies: Document and report any discrepancies, delays, or issues with electrical installations, including proposing corrective actions to address them.
