Roles and responsibilities
- Doctoral degree in Mental Health or a related field from an accredited university in the United Arab Emirates.
- Expertise in Mental Health Psychology.
- At least (3) years previous university teaching experience.
- Commitment to fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment.
- The applicant should have published papers in journals within the global databases (Scopus).
- The applicant must be fluent in both Arabic and English.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver courses in designated areas of study.
- Uphold the fundamental standards of the University, including Teaching, Research, and Service.
- Evaluate and monitor individual student progress, providing feedback to promote student success.
- Research, organize, and manage instructional resources, course outlines, and community networks.
- Actively seek methods, procedures, and resources to effectively achieve course objectives.
- Support and participate in accreditation initiatives.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Desired candidate profile
1. Expertise in Mental Health
- Mental Health Disorders: In-depth knowledge of various mental health disorders, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and personality disorders. This includes understanding the causes, symptoms, diagnostic criteria, and treatment options for each disorder.
- Psychological Theories and Approaches: Expertise in different psychological theories, therapeutic modalities, and frameworks for understanding mental health, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches.
- Mental Health Treatment: Knowledge of various mental health treatment approaches, including pharmacological treatments, psychotherapy, counseling, and alternative therapies.
- Preventive Mental Health: Understanding of preventative measures, early intervention strategies, and public health initiatives aimed at improving mental health at the population level.
- Health Systems and Policy: Understanding how mental health services are structured within healthcare systems, including the role of public policy, social determinants of health, and healthcare access.
2. Teaching and Curriculum Development
- Course Design: Developing and delivering courses at undergraduate and graduate levels on topics related to mental health, including clinical psychology, mental health interventions, psychiatric disorders, mental health policy, and the social aspects of mental health.
- Interdisciplinary Teaching: Teaching students from various disciplines, such as psychology, psychiatry, nursing, social work, and public health, and integrating mental health topics into broader healthcare, social science, and human services curricula.
- Practical Training: Providing students with practical experiences, such as clinical placements, internships, or fieldwork, to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings.
- Student Evaluation: Designing assessments such as exams, papers, projects, and presentations to evaluate students' understanding of mental health concepts and their ability to apply them in professional contexts.
3. Research and Scholarly Activity
- Mental Health Research: Conducting research in areas related to mental health, such as the epidemiology of mental health disorders, the effectiveness of treatments, the relationship between mental health and other aspects of health (e.g., physical health, substance abuse), and mental health in marginalized populations.
- Clinical Trials and Studies: Designing and leading clinical trials, longitudinal studies, or qualitative research projects that explore various aspects of mental health care, including the effectiveness of different therapies or treatment models.
- Collaboration with Healthcare Providers: Collaborating with hospitals, clinics, and community organizations to gather data, share findings, and implement evidence-based practices in mental health care.
- Publication: Publishing research in peer-reviewed journals and presenting findings at academic conferences to contribute to the knowledge base and advancement of the field.
- Grant Writing: Writing research proposals and securing funding for mental health research projects from government agencies, non-profit organizations, and private foundations.
4. Supervision and Mentorship
- Graduate Student Supervision: Supervising graduate students (Master’s, PhD, and postdoctoral researchers) in their mental health-related research projects, theses, and dissertations. Providing guidance on research design, methodology, data collection, analysis, and writing.
- Career Mentorship: Advising students on career opportunities in mental health, including clinical practice, academia, policy-making, and mental health advocacy. Supporting students in their professional development and helping them navigate the mental health field.
- Research Mentorship: Providing mentorship and guidance to junior faculty and early-career researchers, helping them develop their research programs, publish in academic journals, and secure funding for their work.
5. Community Outreach and Advocacy
- Mental Health Education: Engaging in public outreach to increase awareness of mental health issues, reduce stigma, and promote mental health literacy in communities.
