Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

  • The applicant must have a PhD from an accredited university in the United Arab Emirates.
  • The applicant must have at least (3) years of experience in teaching in an academic institution applying the credit hour system.
  • The applicant should have published papers in journals within the global databases (Scopus).
  • The applicant must be fluent in both Arabic and English (Arabic is a must).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and deliver courses to students in specified discipline areas of study, considering and aiming to achieve the three (3)
  • Fundamental standards of the University, those are: Teaching, Research and services
  • Evaluate and monitor individual student progress and provide feedback to sustain student success.
  • Research, organize and manage instructional resources, courses outlines, and community networks.
  • Actively seek out methods, procedures and resources to best achieve course objectives.
  • Support and participate in accreditation initiatives.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
  • Ability to work effectively with a multiple diverse community.
  • Ability to create, compose and edit written materials.
  • Program planning and implementation skills.
  • Knowledge of computerized student information systems
  • Public Speaking: Delivering lectures, workshops, or talks to community organizations, schools, or other public forums on psychological topics such as mental health, behavior, cognitive processes, or psychological well-being.
  • Professional Associations: Participating in professional organizations like the American Psychological Association (APA), attending conferences, and contributing to the field of psychology through networking, advocacy, and service.
  • Consultation: Providing psychological expertise through consultation with organizations, businesses, healthcare providers, or community groups. This could involve offering insights on topics like workplace behavior, mental health interventions, or educational practices.

Desired candidate profile

1. Teaching and Instruction

  • Course Development and Delivery: Designing and teaching undergraduate and graduate-level courses in various areas of psychology, including but not limited to cognitive psychology, clinical psychology, behavioral psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, and neuroscience.
  • Lecturing: Delivering lectures and seminars on fundamental psychological theories, research, methodologies, and practical applications. These courses may focus on specific subfields or be interdisciplinary in nature.
  • Laboratory Supervision: Overseeing and guiding students in psychology labs or practical settings where they conduct experiments or fieldwork. This is especially important for students pursuing research careers or hands-on applications in clinical or educational settings.
  • Curriculum Design: Developing and updating course materials, including syllabi, lecture content, assignments, quizzes, and exams. Ensuring that course content stays relevant and aligns with the latest research and developments in psychology.

2. Research and Scholarly Activity

  • Conducting Research: Engaging in original research in the field of psychology. This can include laboratory-based studies, clinical trials, field research, and experimental design. Research topics could span a wide array of psychological fields, such as mental health, cognition, neuropsychology, developmental psychology, or social behavior.
  • Research Publication: Publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals, books, or conference proceedings. Regular publication helps contribute to the academic community and advances knowledge in the field of psychology.
  • Grant Writing: Writing and securing research grants to fund studies, including federal, state, or private funding opportunities. Successful grant writing supports the continuation of research projects and may involve collaboration with other academic or professional institutions.
  • Collaborations: Collaborating with other academic researchers, healthcare providers, or interdisciplinary teams. This could involve participation in large-scale studies, clinical trials, or research programs in areas like psychology, psychiatry, or public health.

3. Graduate Student Mentorship and Supervision

  • Supervising Graduate Students: Supervising Master’s and Ph.D. students in their research projects, theses, or dissertations. Providing guidance on research methodology, data analysis, and writing.
  • Advising: Offering academic, professional, and career advice to graduate students. This includes helping students navigate their coursework, research, and future employment opportunities.
  • Committee Involvement: Serving on thesis or dissertation committees for graduate students, evaluating their research progress, and providing constructive feedback.

4. Academic and Departmental Service

  • Committee Participation: Serving on departmental, college, or university committees, which may focus on academic policies, curriculum review, faculty hiring, or accreditation processes.
  • Program Development: Contributing to the development of new programs, courses, and initiatives that enhance the department’s offerings in psychology and meet the evolving needs of students and the profession.
  • Accreditation and Standards: Ensuring that psychology programs meet professional accreditation standards and contribute to the academic rigor of the institution.
  • Faculty Development: Participating in professional development activities, attending academic conferences, and keeping up with trends in psychology education and research.
