Plumber Technician

Roles and responsibilities

• Install, repair, and maintain pipes, valves, fittings, drainage systems, and fixtures in commercial and residential structures.
• Respond, diagnose, and resolve plumbing issues.
• Perform routine inspections of plumbing and drainage systems.
• Light construction, carpentry, painting, plastering, flooring, ceiling, and electrical work as required.
• Test, troubleshoot, and perform basic repairs on all types of equipment.
• Maintain maintenance inventory and requisition parts and supplies as needed.
  

Qualifications

• At least 2 years experience working on a similar role.
• Hospitality background is preferred.

• 1. Technical Plumbing Knowledge

• Plumbing Systems: In-depth knowledge of water supply systems, waste and drainage systems, and gas lines, as well as the ability to identify and fix issues in these systems.
• Pipe Fitting and Installation: Expertise in installing, repairing, and replacing various types of pipes, including copper, PVC, steel, and more.
• Fixture Installation: Experience in installing plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, bathtubs, showers, dishwashers, and water heaters.
• Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and understand blueprints and building plans to ensure proper installation and repairs according to specifications.

• 2. Problem Solving and Troubleshooting

• Diagnostic Skills: Ability to diagnose plumbing issues accurately, whether it’s a clogged drain, leaking pipe, or broken appliance, and determine the appropriate solution.
• Repair Skills: Expertise in using a variety of tools to repair plumbing systems, such as pipe wrenches, plungers, and soldering tools.
• Preventative Maintenance: Identifying potential issues before they become serious problems, such as checking for leaks or maintaining water heaters.

• 3. Physical Dexterity

• Manual Skills: Skilled at using hand tools and power tools to cut, fit, and assemble piping systems.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to work in various conditions, including tight spaces, high or low positions, and sometimes in adverse weather conditions.
• Heavy Lifting: Ability to handle and lift heavy plumbing materials, including pipes, fixtures, and equipment.

• Maintenance of Plumbing Systems: Conducting routine maintenance of plumbing systems, including checking pipes for leaks, cleaning drains, and inspecting fixtures for wear and tear.
• Upgrades and Renovations: Installing or replacing plumbing systems in building renovations or new construction, ensuring that everything is up to code.

2. Troubleshooting and Repairs

• Identifying Plumbing Issues: Inspecting systems to identify leaks, clogs, and other plumbing issues and determining the best course of action for repairs.
• Repairing Pipes and Fixtures: Fixing leaks, broken pipes, malfunctioning water heaters, and clogged drains using a range of tools and techniques.
• Gas Line Repairs: In some cases, plumbers may also be responsible for repairing or installing gas lines, ensuring that they are safe and functional.

• Client Consultation: Consulting with clients to understand their plumbing needs, assess problems, and offer solutions or recommendations.

• Service Records: Keeping detailed records of all services performed, including inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.

6. Emergency Plumbing Services

• 24/7 Availability: In many cases, plumbers are on-call for emergency situations, such as burst pipes, flooding, or gas leaks.
• Rapid Response: Responding to emergency calls quickly and efficiently, minimizing damage and restoring plumbing systems to normal function.
