Roles and responsibilities
1. Patient Diagnosis:
- Conducting medical histories: Interviewing patients to gather information about their symptoms, medical history, and family history.
- Performing physical exams: Conducting thorough physical examinations to assess the patient’s condition and identify signs of illness or injury.
- Ordering and interpreting tests: Ordering laboratory tests, X-rays, MRIs, or other diagnostic tests to gather further information about a patient’s condition and analyzing the results to make accurate diagnoses.
- Differential diagnosis: Determining the most likely cause of a patient’s symptoms by considering multiple potential diagnoses and ruling out conditions with similar presentations.
2. Treatment and Patient Care:
- Prescribing medications: Based on diagnosis, physicians may prescribe medications to treat infections, pain, chronic conditions, or other diseases.
- Developing treatment plans: Creating personalized treatment plans for patients, which may involve medications, lifestyle changes, surgery, or other medical interventions.
- Performing procedures or surgeries: Physicians may perform minor or major surgeries depending on their specialty (e.g., orthopedic surgeries, dermatologic procedures, or cardiac surgery).
- Providing emergency care: In emergency situations, physicians are responsible for providing life-saving interventions and stabilizing patients before further treatment is administered.
- Monitoring patient progress: Regularly assessing the effectiveness of the treatment plan and making adjustments as necessary.
3. Preventive Care:
- Health screenings: Conducting routine physical exams and screenings to detect diseases early (e.g., cancer screenings, cholesterol checks, blood pressure monitoring).
- Patient education: Educating patients on how to maintain or improve their health through lifestyle changes, including diet, exercise, smoking cessation, and stress management.
- Vaccinations: Administering vaccines or ensuring patients are up-to-date on immunizations to prevent infectious diseases.
4. Patient Counseling:
- Discussing diagnoses: Explaining the patient’s condition in understandable terms, discussing treatment options, and answering any questions.
- Providing emotional support: Offering psychological support, especially when delivering bad news or guiding patients through difficult treatments or illnesses.
- End-of-life care: In some cases, physicians are involved in providing palliative care and helping patients and their families navigate end-of-life decisions.
5. Collaboration with Healthcare Team:
- Coordinating with specialists: Referring patients to specialists (e.g., cardiologists, oncologists, surgeons) for advanced care when necessary and collaborating with them to provide integrated care.
- Working with nurses and other staff: Supervising and collaborating with nurses, medical assistants, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality care.
- Interdisciplinary teamwork: Working as part of a broader healthcare team in hospitals or clinics to create and implement comprehensive care plans for complex cases.
6. Medical Research and Continuing Education:
- Staying updated with medical advancements: Physicians must continually educate themselves about the latest research, technologies, treatments, and best practices in medicine.
- Contributing to medical research: Many physicians engage in clinical or laboratory research to help advance medical knowledge or contribute to the development of new treatments.
- Publishing studies: Some physicians work in academic settings and publish their findings in medical journals or speak at medical conferences.
7. Administrative Duties:
- Maintaining patient records: Documenting patient visits, medical histories, treatments, and progress notes in electronic health records (EHRs).
- Billing and coding: In some settings, physicians may also oversee or assist with billing processes, ensuring that the correct procedures and diagnoses are billed appropriately for insurance purposes.
- Compliance with regulations: Ensuring that patient care practices adhere to healthcare regulations, ethical guidelines, and legal standards (e.g., HIPAA compliance, informed consent).
Desired candidate profile
- diagnose medical illnesses and provide treatment with focus on the overall health of the patient including and not limited to physical, psychological and social aspects of care
- Provides comprehensive care to patients according to current best-evidence based standards, using best judgement at all times and in accordance with Al-Futtaim Health Medical Staff bylaws and rules and regulations
- The post holder is responsible for providing comprehensive specialist level patient care
- Liaises with patients, families, medical staff, nursing staff, other clinical staff and referring doctors.
- Undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a Specialist working alongside primary care providers.
The Minimum Qualifications And Knowledge
- MBBS or MBchB or equivalent qualification from an accredited institution AND Completion of specialty qualification recognized by Dubai Health Authority or Health Authority of Abu Dhabi or Ministry of Health UAE
- ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, doctors, nurses, and other clinical staff in both Tagalog and English
- certification in Basic and Advanced Life Support.
- fluency in Tagalog, English, speaking, reading and writing
- arabic speaking skills will be an added advantage
- excellent Computer Literacy skills is required
- publications in peer reviewed journals with be well regarded
