Roles and responsibilities
The General Technician will assist the Shift Supervisor to manage the shift operations. He or she is responsible for the upkeep of the hotel or business office and to to complete maintenance work orders from all departments on a timely basis by following hotels standard operating procedures since he/she is a skilled in a variety of areas including plumbing, carpentry, and electrical systems. He/She will continually work towards and support the improvement of engineering services to guests, other departments, and fellow staffs.
Key Responsibilities
- Performing routine inspections and preventive maintenance of hotel systems and equipment such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems to ensure they are in good working order.
- Responding promptly to maintenance requests from guests and staff, and effectively diagnosing and repairing issues such as leaks, broken fixtures, malfunctioning appliances, etc.
- Ensuring that all maintenance work complies with safety standards and regulations. This includes fire safety, health and safety codes, and any relevant building codes.
- Monitoring and maintaining inventory levels of parts, tools, and supplies necessary for maintenance tasks.
- Assisting with renovation and construction projects as needed, including basic carpentry, painting, and other tasks to support the upkeep and improvement of the hotel.
- Being available for on-call duty and responding to emergency maintenance situations outside of regular working hours, such as power outages or severe weather incidents.
- Keeping accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, including maintenance logs, work orders, and equipment service history.
Qualifications And Requirements
- A formal qualification in mechanical/electrical engineering
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a luxury hotel environment.
- Hotel Pre-opening experience or renovation experience is an advantage.
- Proven experience as General Technician for 2 years.
- Experience in electrical maintenance and repair of wastewater treatment, plant equipment or other related commercial equipment is highly desirable
- Able to read blueprints or cad drawings
- Have strong knowledge of technical aspects in mechanical, electrical, plumbing etc.

General Maintenance and Repairs:
- Perform routine and emergency maintenance and repair tasks in guest rooms, public areas, and other facilities.
- Troubleshoot and fix issues related to plumbing, electrical systems, lighting, HVAC, and appliances (such as refrigerators, microwaves, washers, etc.).
- Repair or replace faulty equipment, fixtures, or furniture within the property, ensuring that all systems are functioning efficiently.
- Respond to maintenance requests from staff and guests in a timely manner.

Preventive Maintenance:
- Carry out regular inspections and preventive maintenance of equipment and systems to avoid future issues. This includes checking the condition of HVAC systems, electrical circuits, and plumbing.
- Ensure that all systems, including air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration, are working optimally and efficiently.
- Perform routine testing, cleaning, and maintenance of fire safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, and sprinkler systems.
- Monitor the building’s infrastructure and make recommendations for upgrades or repairs to enhance safety and functionality.

Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:
- Quickly diagnose and identify technical problems related to electrical, plumbing, or mechanical issues and take corrective actions.
- Respond to and resolve maintenance emergencies, such as power outages, water leaks, or equipment breakdowns.
- Use diagnostic tools, equipment manuals, and technical knowledge to troubleshoot systems and equipment.

Collaboration with Other Departments:
- Work closely with housekeeping, front desk, and other operational teams to prioritize and address maintenance requests. This could involve preparing guest rooms, conference rooms, or public spaces for events.
- Assist with the setup and maintenance of event equipment (e.g., AV systems, lighting) in function spaces or meeting rooms.
- Ensure that guest areas and back-of-house spaces are functioning properly, from lighting to water temperature.

Building and Equipment Upkeep:
- Perform daily checks and maintenance of building systems, including elevators, plumbing, lighting, and ventilation.
- Regularly inspect and maintain mechanical rooms, electrical panels, and other essential systems.
- Manage maintenance and repairs of key hotel systems, such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and plumbing, to ensure the comfort and safety of guests and staff.
