Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

The in-house team photographer/videographer, as a member of the marketing function will help develop creative assets for use in GEMS marketing and communications campaigns. He/she will be responsible for analyzing each brief to determine how to compose the subject and manage the technical needs of the shoot to deliver visual imagery in support of the campaign. The role requires proficiency in managing still and video shoots in a variety of environments including but not limited to studio shoots, event photography and live action shots as well as expert proficiency in editing both formats.

Key Accountabilities

Photography:

  • Select and assemble proper equipment, and choose settings and props based on requirements and theme of photo shoot
  • Properly light subjects using artificial or natural lighting and using flashes and reflectors where necessary
  • Determine desired images and compositions and choose equipment props, settings and lighting to achieve desired results
  • Retouch, resize and enhance images as needed using Photoshop, Lightroom, or other photography software

Videography:

  • Work as part of the production team that creates video products, direct multi-camera studio equipment and video switching
  • Generate and insert onscreen texts and graphics in live productions using cameras, DVR’s, switching equipment and edit controller
  • Digitally edit videos
  • Use audio mixing equipment, tweak the studio lighting and control the studio mikes
  • Complete post-production work – reviewing footage, eliminate segments not needed, edit using software

Skills

Qualifications & Expected Experience

  • Formal degree from a recognised institution in photography, digital film & production or related fields
  • Certifications in editing would be a plus
  • At least 3 years’ experience working for a corporate company as a photographer/videographer, or 5 years + experience freelancing

  6. Storytelling: Skill in capturing images that convey a narrative or evoke emotion, helping viewers connect with the subject.

  7. Lighting Knowledge: Understanding natural and artificial lighting to manipulate light effectively for different situations.

  8. Patience and Timing: Ability to wait for the perfect moment, especially in situations like wildlife or event photography.

  9. Client Relations: Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with clients, understand their needs, and build relationships.

  10. Adaptability: Being flexible and able to work in varying environments and conditions, from outdoor shoots to studio settings.
