- Inspecting the structural integrity of reservoirs, including reviewing water quality samples and inspecting for construction defects or damage due to natural disasters
- Developing computer models to track water supply and demand to ensure that the reservoir can meet future needs
- Conducting tests on new designs to ensure that they meet safety standards or are structurally sound
- Evaluating water quality in reservoirs to detect contamination by harmful bacteria or other pathogens
- Monitoring the status of equipment located at the reservoir site, such as pumps or valves
- Coordinating with other engineers to ensure that designs meet construction requirements
- Consulting with local government agencies to help plan for future growth in population or industrial activity
- Evaluating new technologies related to water storage and purification to determine if they are suitable for use at existing facilities
- Preparing reports on findings and recommendations for further action
