- Help to prepare the deceased for burial or cremation by cleaning and grooming the body according to standard practices
- Arranging for flowers or other funeral decorations to be used
- Collecting information about the deceased from family members or from obituaries or death notices in newspapers
- Coordinating with clergy members to ensure that they are available at the time of the funeral service
- Provide support to grieving family members during difficult times such as wakes, funerals, and burials
- Coordinating with funeral directors to schedule services and notify guests of upcoming events
- Coordinate with photographers to take pictures of the deceased before burial or cremation
- Monitor the condition of the deceased’s body before and after embalming to ensure it is in good condition
- Assist in the preparation of bodies for burial or cremation by dressing them in appropriate clothing and cosmetics
