Job Purpose

Responsibilities of this role is to maintain and enhance the organization s Human Resources and Safety by planning, implementing and evaluating policies, programs and practices.

Essential Functions

Human Resources Functions:

  • Maintains the work structure by updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions.
  • Maintains organization staff by establishing a recruiting, testing and interviewing program; counseling managers on candidate selection; conducting and analyzing exit interviews; recommending changes.
  • Prepares employees for assignments by establishing and conducting orientation and training programs.
  • Maintains a pay plan by conducting periodic pay surveys; scheduling and conducting job evaluations; preparing pay budgets; monitoring and scheduling individual pay actions; recommending, planning and implementing pay structure revisions.
  • Ensures planning, monitoring and appraisal of employee work results by training managers to coach and discipline employees; scheduling management conferences with employees; hearing and resolving employee grievances; counseling employees and supervisors.
  • Maintains employee benefits programs and informs employees of benefits by studying and assessing benefit needs and trends; recommending benefit programs to management; directing the processing of benefit claims; obtaining and evaluating benefit contract bids; awarding benefit contracts; designing and conducting educational programs on benefit programs.
  • Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements; conducting investigations; maintaining records; representing the organization at hearings.
  • Maintains management guidelines by preparing, updating and recommending human resource policies and procedures.
  • Maintains historical human resource records by designing a filing and retrieval system; keeping past and current records.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Completes human resource operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees, following up on work results.
  • Maintains human resource staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting and training employees.
  • Maintains human resource staff job results by counseling and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring and appraising job results.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Payroll Functions:

  • Serve as backup to the controller regarding all payroll responsibilities.
  • Oversee paperless time-keeping system for employees.
  • Review timecards for accuracy prior to each payroll run.
  • Update employee files with new wages, PTO, deductions and withholding as necessary.
  • Download pre-posting and post-posting payroll reports and save to payroll run file.
  • Stay up to date on payroll law and inform management of changes.

Safety Manager Functions:

As a safety manager you must have excellent attention to detail to identify hazards. You will also be able to discover opportunities for improving conditions and execute various safety programs. The ability to communicate guidelines to a multidisciplinary workforce is essential. The goal is to ensure the workplace meets all legal expectations and actively supports occupational health and safety.


  • Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines.
  • Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety.
  • Evaluate practices, procedures ad facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law.
  • Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention.
  • Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations.
  • Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions.
  • Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker s compensation claims.
  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures.
  • Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics



Qualifications
  • Proven experience as an HR and Safety Manager, minimum of (5) or more years of progressive human resources experience in non-union manufacturing environment, required.
  • Working knowledge and proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, Power Point and Access.
  • Deep understanding of legal, health and safety guidelines
  • Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies.
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
  • Excellent organizational and motivational skills
  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
  • BS/BA in Human Resources or relevant field is preferred.
  • Valid qualification in occupational health and safety

Working Conditions:

  • High level of contact with co-workers
  • Communicate with others by telephone, e-mail and face to face discussions.
  • Often work as part of a team
  • Always work indoors in temperature-controlled environment
  • May share workspace with others.

Physical Requirements

  • Speak clearly so listeners can understand and understand the speech of another person.
  • Long periods of sitting, standing and walking
  • Use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
