- Previous experience as a Commis 1 in a luxury hotel fine dining restaurant or high-end culinary operation.
- Clear understanding of food preparation kitchen operations and food safety standards.
- Thorough understanding of food safety standards hygiene practices and HACCP guidelines.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with kitchen staff and other departments.
- Ability to work efficiently and stay calm under pressure particularly during busy service periods.

A Commis 1 is responsible for supporting culinary operations by leading food preparation within their designated section and maintaining the highest standards of hygiene efficiency and food quality. This role plays a key part in the kitchen brigade ensuring consistency in food production and presentation while assisting the Demi Chef de Partie in delivering exceptional dishes in line with the hotels standards.
What will I be doing
This position is vital in delivering a seamless and exceptional dining experience for our guests contributing to the overall success of the hotels food and beverage operations. Specifically you will be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:
- Prepare and present high-quality dishes in accordance with established recipes and brand guidelines.
- Assist in preparing and cooking menu items based on guest preferences and hotel standards.
- Ensure consistency in taste presentation and portioning of all dishes produced.
- Carry out mise en place duties and ensure ingredients are prepared and ready before service.
- Follow recipe standards while maintaining culinary quality taste and appearance.
- Collaborate with fellow Commis and culinary team members to ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operations.
- Monitor proper storage and rotation of food items to maintain freshness and minimize waste.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene across all kitchen and storage areas in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Prepare daily requisitions for ingredients ensuring adequate stock levels and accurate inventory.
- Read and apply basic math skills to follow recipes and portion guidelines effectively.
- Visually inspect and select food items to ensure only high-quality ingredients are used in food preparation.
