The Commis plays a vital role in assisting the kitchen team with food preparation cooking and maintaining a high standard of culinary excellence in the restaurant. This position involves working closely with the chefs and other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations adherence to recipes and quality standards and the timely delivery of exceptional dishes.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in food preparation tasks including chopping peeling and portioning ingredients according to established recipes and instructions.
- Support the chefs in cooking and presenting menu items in a timely and consistent manner ensuring adherence to quality standards and plating guidelines.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for food preparation cooking techniques and recipe execution to maintain consistency and excellence in food production.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations including countertops cutting boards utensils and other equipment by ensuring proper cleaning sanitizing and storage.
- Assist in receiving and storing food deliveries checking for quality freshness and proper storage conditions.
- Assist in monitoring and controlling food stock levels by ordering adequate quantity rotating inventory managing item availability and notifying supervisors of any shortages or discrepancies.
- Adhere to all health safety and sanitation guidelines including proper food handling storage and labeling to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure efficient workflow smooth communication and timely completion of tasks.
- Assisting the chefs in preparing ingredients following established recipes and portion sizes accurately.
- Assisting the chefs in preparing ingredients and setting up cooking stations before service.
- Regularly cleaning and sanitizing workstations equipment and utensils ensuring a hygienic and safe kitchen environment.
- Cutting grinding and preparing meats.
- Cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment.
- Support in maintaining kitchen equipment by following proper cleaning procedures and reporting any maintenance needs or malfunctions.
- Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards in accordance with local health regulations and restaurant policies.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment including washing dishes utensils and other kitchen equipment as needed.
- Follow proper waste management procedures by segregating and disposing of trash recycling and food waste in designated containers.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Culinary education or relevant Stock certifications are a plus.
- Previous experience as a kitchen Commis or in a similar role within a restaurant or culinary establishment is advantageous.
- Knowledge in Asian/Thai Cuisine is an advantage
- Basic knowledge of culinary techniques food preparation and cooking methods is desirable.
- Passion for food and a strong willingness to learn and grow in a culinary career.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
- Ability to work effectively in a fastpaced highpressure environment while maintaining a positive and professional attitude.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with the kitchen team and effectively take direction from supervisors.
- Physical stamina and ability to stand bend lift and carry heavy objects as required in a kitchen environment.
- Flexibility to work in shifts including evenings weekends and holidays as needed.
- Knowledge of hygiene and sanitation standards in a kitchen environment.
- Valid food handling and safety certifications are a plus.
