About the unit

The VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research is part of the VIB life sciences institute and is embedded within the University of Leuven which ranks among the world s top 100 universities. At our center, researchers study the cellular mechanisms of neuronal function in health and disease.

The VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research hosts several top-notch research facilities, one of which is the electrophysiology expertise unit. This platform is equipped with state-of-the-art electrophysiology systems. The unit is responsible for facilitating research groups with experiments requiring single-cell electrophysiology, multi-electrode arrays, optogenetics, and functional fluorescence imaging.

To support the work in our electrophysiology expertise unit we are looking for an energetic and highly-motivated research technician to join the team. The successful candidate will be trained in the above-mentioned methods and ultimately will be expected to perform and analyze experiments independently. Mastering these techniques will be organized in stages, starting with multi-electrode array recordings. In addition, he/she will also be involved in other aspects required within the electrophysiology expertise unit organization, such as lab maintenance, assurance of consumable stocks and concomitant orderings, and assisting external users of the unit.

Profile

• You possess a degree in Biomedical or Biological Sciences (Professional Bachelor/Master/Engineer) or equivalent
• FELASA B license for animal work is an advantage
• Theoretical or hands-on experience with one of the following areas would be advantageous:
  • Electrophysiological recordings (in vivo, multi-array, field, and/or whole cell recordings)
  • Live cell imaging (e.g. calcium/SypHy imaging)
• You are meticulous, detail-oriented, independent, and self-motivated, and are also able to interact well with other members/users of the research unit
• Proficiency in written and spoken English is required
• You are eager to expand your skills and are not easily discouraged during the process
