Unix - Consultant

One of our clients, a global IT consulting firm is looking for aUnix - Consultant to be based in Abu Dhabi.UAE experienced candidates are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, and support Linux (RHEL) operating systems and exposure to any 2 of the UNIX flavors (Solaris & AIX).
• Resolve major incidents and technical escalations within agreed SLAs and quality.
• Problem Management: Perform root cause analysis for problems and major incidents, provide workarounds to ensure business continuity and prepare RCA reports.
• Change Management: Prepare Implementation plan, rollback plan and test plan, risk and impact analysis for critical or complex changes. Review the change plan and documentation prepared by level 2 engineers or peers.
• Participate in CAB meetings as needed and assist change manager in techno-operations decision process
• Install hardware and software, maintain appropriate service levels, performance tuning and firmware upgrades across multiple hardware platforms.
• Perform advance tasks such as, capacity planning, performance monitoring, provide recommendations for improvement and implement or oversee implementation of the recommendations.
• Perform system software upgrades including planning / scheduling, testing, coordination, and maintaining integrity of operating system environment.
• Harden operating system parameters in line with client / CIS Standard security policy, or best practices.
• Respond to outages both during normal business hours and after-hours on a need basis (on-call support).
• Documentation, knowledge sharing and training of junior members.
• Coordinating and interfacing with outside vendors, end users, other department team members, and service providers to resolve issues.
• Analyze data, oversee, and contribute to service improvements.
• Oversee tasks executed by junior members and stand in for them if needed.
• Patch Management of Systems with Automated way -preferably Ansible.
  

Requirements

Technical

• 10+ years work experience relevant to Unix stream
• At least 8 years experience in Unix Administration
• At least 6 years on Linux as a senior administrator
• At least 4 years on any two Unix flavors
• Should be a subject matter expert in:
• Mandatorily Linux
• Additionally, at least in two of:
• Solaris
• HP-UX
• AIX
• Strong knowledge on any of the public cloud and 2 years experience is a must.
• Exposure to any two hardware platforms:
• HP Blade Servers / Itanium
• Dell Servers
• Cisco UCS
• Oracle / Sun Sparc
• IBM Power Systems
• Experience in cluster (RHELCluster / VCS /HA/ Sun Cluster)
• VMware understanding and exposure,
• Scripting experience (Shell, Perl, etc.)
• Highly preferred: knowledge of Virtualization technologies Solaris containers, VMware, PowerVM, HP Virtual Engine and KVM etc.
• Load balancer and firewall concepts, security aspects, and virtual IP, DNS, DHCP concepts
• Understanding of Monitoring tools like-Splunk, Zabbix, Nagios, Pingdom etc.
• Basic understanding of Windows environment
• Understanding of Database concepts is a plus
• Good understanding of operational framework like ITIL/ITSM, operations process
• Excellent communication skills verbal and written
• Willingness to work in shifts and provide on call support in a 24x7 environment
• Ability to priorities tasks and work under pressure
• International Client experience is required
• Relevant certifications a must (such as RHCE/Oracle/IBM/ Azure or AWS)
• Understanding of Ansible Automation.
• Team player and basic leadership skills
