About Ajman University

Our Story - Ajman University Ajman University: The intersection of innovation and compassion. Founded in 1988 as the first private institution of higher education in the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf region, Ajman University (AU) is now being recognized as an emerging leader on the global academic map. The 2020 QS World University Rankings lists AU in the top 800 universities globally and among the top 10 worldwide for international students and faculty! The “Top 50 Under 50” QS Rankings names AU as one of the top 150 young universities in the world. Even our distinct location in the Dubai/Sharjah/Ajman corridor is ranked by QS as the 61st best student destination on the planet. Recently, Ajman University earned Five QS Stars in three ratings categories -- Social Responsibility, Inclusiveness and Learning Environment. We also garnered Four QS Stars for both Teaching and Internationalization. In 2018, AU became one of only 11 non-American universities to be certified by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) in the United States. Also in 2018, our Bachelor of Science programs in Biomedical Engineering and Electrical Engineering were accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET – the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology. In 2019, our Bachelor of Science in Accounting was accredited by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA); and, our Architecture Program earned Validation status from UNESCO-UIA, the International Union of Architects. (Please see our rankings & accreditation webpage for further details). Whether researching on campus or volunteering in the community, AU students and faculty – from 35 and 72 countries, respectively – demonstrate a great passion for innovation and deep compassion for society. Each of AU’s 9 colleges, including the new College of Medicine, is focused on putting imaginations into action for the greater good. AU’s Innovation Center (AUIC) is the epicenter of campus and community partnerships. One of the most promising start-ups includes the “Smart Arm,” created by three bio-engineering students to provide an affordable and intelligent solution for people who have lost hands to war or disease. Check out the innovations under incubation at the AUIC website. The College of Dentistry proudly assists more than 500 people each day in a free dental clinic on campus. Last semester, a team of faculty, student and alumni joined forces to help improve the oral health and hygiene of vulnerable populations in Southeast Asia and East Africa. With the recent addition of an AU mobile dental unit, they will soon hit the road to serve local populations who lack transportation. See our webpage about social responsibility at AU. Over spring break, March 2019, a total of 30 AU students traveled to Zanzibar on a mission to serve some of the island nation’s most vulnerable children. Known as the “Zanzibar 30,” the all-expenses-paid initiative also served to commemorate AU’s 30thanniversary. The Zanzibar 30 were selected through an essay contest open to all sophomore, junior and senior students. In less than 300 words, applicants had to explain why they wanted to be part of the meaningful trip and momentous occasion. Check out some of the photos from their once-in-a-lifetime experience on this webpage. AU has graduated more than 37,000 students who hail from 104 nations. Working in a variety of professions – from dentistry to information technology; pharmacy to law; mass communication to business administration – AU alumni now comprise 14 alumni chapters around the globe. We're committed to making things happen everywhere we go. Come join us!
