Job Title: Laboratory Technician (Civil)
College: College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT)
Grade: 8
Reports To: Head of Department
Subordinates: None
Position Summary
The Laboratory Technician (Civil) is responsible for supporting teaching and research activities within the Civil Engineering laboratories. This includes preparing and maintaining lab equipment assisting students during experiments and projects ensuring compliance with safety standards and maintaining accurate laboratory records. The role also involves coordinating laboratory resources troubleshooting technical issues and supporting the academic team in practical and experimental sessions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations
Prepare laboratory equipment materials and software required for practical sessions and experiments.
Conduct routine maintenance calibration and servicing of Civil Engineering laboratory equipment.
Repair and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and systems when required.
Maintain laboratory cleanliness safety and readiness for instructional use.
Academic Support
Supervise and assist students during laboratory sessions experiments and project work.
Provide students with components tools and software necessary for academic projects.
Support faculty members in developing and implementing laboratory procedures manuals and safety guidelines.
Participate in departmental exhibitions open days and field or site visits as assigned.
Inventory and Administration
Maintain an updated inventory of laboratory materials equipment and components.
Order and receive laboratory supplies in coordination with procurement.
Maintain accurate records of experiments results and maintenance activities.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Head of Department.
Qualifications and Experience
Knowledge Skills and Competencies
Strong technical knowledge of Civil Engineering laboratory and experimental equipment.
Proficiency in computer applications and relevant engineering software.
Skills in organizing laboratory resources and managing time effectively.
Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to students and faculty.
Supervisory and instructional support skills.
Proficiency in English (spoken and written); Arabic language proficiency is an advantage.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient laboratory environment.
Working Conditions
Work is primarily conducted in a laboratory environment.
May require standing for extended periods.
Minimal exposure to physical hazards when safety procedures are followed.
