Instrument Design Engineer

Roles and responsibilities

• Preparation and checking of all types of Control & Instrument design deliverables such as Block Diagrams, Schematics, Layout Drawings, Termination Diagrams, Schedules, Loop Diagrams, Hook-up Arrangements, Material Take-Offs etc.
• Occasionally support Electrical / Technical Safety / Process Disciplines in the preparation of design deliverables.
• Interdisciplinary check of all Civil / Structural / Piping / Mechanical / Electrical/ Instrumentation drawings
• Review of vendor drawings for Equipment / Package items
• Produce drawings in AutoCAD
• 3D Modelling using E3D
• To assist in the coordination of all activities related to the discipline
• To provide technical support to the site team during design, engineering and construction
• To promote safe behavior at all times
• Maybe required to perform site surveys and data gathering exercises at various project locations
• To provide discipline specific design and drafting services that meet the Project’s and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements
  

Qualifications

• Diploma or HNC in Instrumentation or Electrical engineering (or relevant subject)
• Experience of working with multi-national and multi-cultural project teams is strongly preferred
• Strong commitment to safety
• Proficient in the use of AutoCAD, Excel and Word
• Experience of 3D modelling using E3D
• Must be able to work to an agreed scope, budget and schedule
• Compliance with industry, international and Client Codes and standards
• Fluent in both spoken and written English language
• Onshore Oil and Gas related Instrument design experience
• Thorough awareness of international codes and standards used for Instrument design in the Oil and Gas industry
• A determination to continually improve safety in all aspects of plant design and operation
• Extensive experience with prefabricated, packaged plant design
• Knowledge of site-based project work involving field engineering and construction

Desired candidate profile

• Instrumentation Expertise: In-depth knowledge of various types of instruments, sensors, and control systems used in industrial applications.

• Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, PDMS, or SmartPlant) for creating detailed instrument diagrams and layouts.

• Process Knowledge: Understanding of process control principles and how instrumentation integrates with process systems.

• Project Management: Ability to manage projects, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating tasks to ensure timely completion.

• Collaboration Skills: Experience working closely with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure design feasibility and integration.

• Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with industry standards, codes, and regulations related to instrumentation and safety.

• Quality Assurance: Understanding of quality control processes to ensure designs meet required specifications and standards.

• Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot issues and provide effective solutions during design and implementation phases.

• Documentation Skills: Proficiency in preparing and maintaining technical documentation, including specifications, data sheets, and reports.

• Mentorship: Ability to guide and mentor junior designers and engineers, fostering professional growth and development within the team.
