IS Principal Technician
- Working Location: Bydgoszcz, Poland
- Security Clearance: NATO Secret
- Language: High proficiency level in English language
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Essential Qualifications/Experience:
Vocational training at a higher level in Telecommunications, IS Electronics, or Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline leading to a professional qualification and 8 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of qualifications and experience
A higher educational qualification with less practical experience, or a less formal educational background combined with particularly relevant practical experience, may also be acceptable
Microsoft Certified, preferably Systems Engineer (MCSE) level, for current Operating System Versions (MCSA or similar certification with extensive experience may be acceptable)
Advanced understanding of server and client technologies. Microsoft Active Directory implementations, Microsoft Exchange
Advanced understanding of Microsoft Virtualisation and clustered environments, iSCSI, Network based Storage Solutions and Industry standard disaster recover techniques
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Pre-deployment Environments and Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, Microsoft operating systems and LINUX server software
Basic mechanical and electrical operation and maintenance skills for deployable / mobile IS Platforms.
Solid Ethernet and Fibre Optic infrastructure installation and maintenance skills, to include Single- and Multi-Mode, on industrial and/or military tactical cabled networks
Understanding of IP basics of Local and Wide Area Network infrastructures connecting IS Systems
Experience in reading complex system documentation and diagrams (electrical and mechanical) and fault finding techniques in IS server and end-user devices
Fault finding experience in complex windows-based systems, including systems with various server and integrated network configurations
Desirable Qualifications/Experience:
Valid drivers license, Truck and Trailer driving license (C,E) or equivalent
Forklift License
Experience of applying electrical safety testing to conform with EU norm EN 50110 or equivalent national norm (NEN 3140)
Extensive experience with respect to reading and understanding wiring diagrams, logic circuitry, flow charts, schematic drawings and technical data sheets
Experience of operating and maintaining UNIX-based systems
Solid understanding of power cabling and associated subsystems, grounding and bonding, copper based structured cabling, an advanced understanding of fiber based structured cabling, working understanding of fiber optic modems, line drivers, media convertors
Good working knowledge of system network troubleshooting techniques utilising complex and diverse test equipment and software tools
Working knowledge of Local Area Networks (LAN) / Wide Area Networks (WAN) technologies, Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)/Internet protocol (IP) and standards
Experience with using Graphical User Interface and command line interface applications and the reporting of details of hardware and software installed so that configuration management records can be updated
Prior experience of working in an international environment comprising both military and civilian elements
Knowledge of NATO responsibilities and organization, including ACO and ACT
DUTIES/ROLE:
Advise the supervisor on scheduling, and tracking of subject matter expertise work for Deployable CIS (DCIS) assets in the Area of Responsibility (AOR) for corrective and preventative maintenance inspections (CMI/PMI) on all NATO CIS equipment based on Service Level Agreements. Furthermore, execute and report PMI/CMI or implemented changes following prescribed formats
Assist in scheduling and tracking of FSP activities in support of operations, exercises, projects for DCIS as assigned. Coordinate scheduled (based on the Service Delivery Schedule, SDS) work, executing assigned PMI or Changes (as of the Change Management Plan, (CMP), and CMI / repairs or replacements, reporting all technical work as of assigned reporting formats and standards
Develop detailed analysis of system deficiencies and provides advice on technical solutions in line with existing standards to ensure operational readiness for the AOR as tasked. Then, assists in preparation of future upgrades of the DCIS nodes providing feedback and drafting Technical Notes and further implementation of the approved changes
Provide on-site or remote support and guidance to the users referring to the IS issues reported to NCIA FSP (including but not limiting to ITSM tickets)
Where needed, coordinate with other NCI Agency internal stakeholders technical aspects of the performed work
Perform all the duties respecting standards set by DCIS SLA, KPIs and the supervisors or other NCI Agency entities (such as CSSC). Ensures all CIS equipment discrepancies are fully identified, investigated, documented, reported and implements corrective actions in accordance with NCI Agency directives
Coordinate and execute assigned technical tasks efficiently in line with set target dates. Explains and provides system technical and logistical advice to colleagues and asset managers, and initiates necessary actions to meet set maintenance or repair targets
Implement received designs and configuration, based on documentation from assigned projects and for AOR systems, following required operating procedures and processes. Coordinates and implements procedures, tools and techniques for monitoring and managing performance of systems under maintenance and provides required reports
Provide On the Job Training (OJT) to Level 2 or 1 technicians, covering IS equipment and/or complete IS assets
