- This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.
- Performs the full range of repair and modification work on vehicles powered by internal combustion engines.
- Inspecting, servicing, maintaining, repairing, replacement, adjusting and testing of wheeled vehicles systems, subsystems and components Service automotive electrical systems including wiring harness and starting and charging systems.
- Examine vehicles to determine extent of damage or malfunctions. Test drive vehicles, and test components and systems, using equipment such as infrared engine analyzers, compression gauges, and computerized diagnostic devices.
- Repairs, relines, replaces, and adjusts brakes. Follows repair procedures, using charts, and technical manuals.
- Follows checklists to ensure all important parts are examined, including belts, hoses, steering systems, spark plugs, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings, and other potentially troublesome areas.
- Tests and adjusts repaired systems to meet military performance specifications.
- Troubleshoots and diagnoses hydraulic systems.
- Performs routine and scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups.
- Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear, using micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
