Job Description Summary
This person provides technical expertise in materials and special processes for a wide variety of aircraft and aerospace products. Responsibilities include evaluating alternate materials and processes, reviewing industry specifications, troubleshooting material and process related issues, creating, and maintaining standard process specifications.

This person provides technical expertise in materials and special processes for a wide variety of aircraft and aerospace products. Responsibilities include evaluating alternate materials and processes, reviewing industry specifications, troubleshooting material and process related issues, creating, and maintaining standard process specifications.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Evaluate and identify alternate materials and processes used in the design of aircraft structures and aerospace products.
- Function as the facility's subject matter expert on metallurgy and related material processes
- Provide technical expertise on a variety of materials used in aerospace products and assemblies, including plastics, electronics, metals, and composites.
- Support the evaluation and specification of special manufacturing processes such as heat treat, passivation, finishes and coatings for corrosion prevention.
- Support investigation of material issues encountered during product manufacture, testing, and operation.
- Develop, maintain, and revise internal materials and process specifications standards in accordance with configuration management standards
- Review and monitor revisions of industry standards and determine applicability to internal process standards
- Contribute to Material Review Board (MRB) and failure investigation activities to ensure material discrepancies and anomalies are thoroughly documented, reviewed, analyzed and dispositioned
- Support internal and external process audits in accordance with AS9100 standards
- Support Continuous Improvement activities
- Support Compliance, as well as Environmental, Health & Safety efforts in support of plant goals
- B.S. Degree in Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical discipline and minimum of 5 years of materials related experience.
- Experience working with materials and process problem solving in a manufacturing setting.
- Expertise in manufacturing processes for one or more of the following core competency areas: heat treating, welding, specialty coatings.
- Expertise in material performance and characteristics.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve difficult problems.
- Understanding of Aerospace industry standards and specifications.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder
