Job Overview

We are currently seeking a skilled Crane Operator & Lifting/Rigging Supervisor to oversee lifting and rigging operations within our shipbuilding organization. The selected candidate will be responsible for operating cranes safely and efficiently as well as supervising lifting and rigging activities to ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate various types of cranes to lift and move heavy materials equipment and components during shipbuilding processes. Follow proper procedures and safety protocols to prevent accidents and ensure the smooth flow of operations.
• Supervise lifting and rigging activities performed by the team ensuring adherence to established procedures standards and safety regulations. Provide guidance and support to crane operators and riggers to optimize efficiency and minimize risks.
• Act as a mentor to crane operators and riggers providing training guidance and support to facilitate their professional development. Document training sessions and progress to ensure competency and compliance with job requirements.
• Conduct regular inspections of cranes lifting equipment and rigging gear to ensure they are in proper working condition. Coordinate maintenance and repairs as needed to prevent equipment failures and downtime.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations company policies and industry standards related to crane operation lifting and rigging. Conduct safety briefings toolbox talks and risk assessments to promote a culture of safety among team members.
• Maintain accurate records of lifting and rigging activities including lift plans inspection reports and incident logs. Prepare reports on equipment performance productivity and safety metrics for management review.
• Coordinate with other departments such as engineering production and logistics to plan and execute lifting operations according to project requirements and schedules. Communicate effectively with stakeholders to ensure smooth coordination and timely completion of tasks.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Naval Architecture Marine Engineering or a related field preferred with additional certifications or training in shipyard services management being advantageous.
• Proven experience as a crane operator and lifting/rigging supervisor in a shipbuilding or heavy construction environment. Demonstrated ability to lead a team prioritize tasks and manage lifting operations effectively.
• Proficient English communication skills with a minimum IELTS band score of 7 or equivalent essential for mentoring trainees and documenting their progress.
• Documented history of being a certified assessor or eligibility to become one demonstrating the ability to assess and certify service processes and personnel.
• Proven track record of working at prominent shipbuilding organizations with significant experience in shipyard services management roles. Bring along best practices and behaviors to enhance operations.
• Demonstrated experience working on projects adhering to top classification society standards/requirements such as IACS ABS BV DNV LR RINA etc.
• Strong leadership abilities with the capacity to lead and motivate teams toward achieving common service goals. Ability to mentor and develop junior staff.
