General Duties of a Fitter
1. Reading and Interpreting Technical Drawings
Understanding engineering blueprints schematics and manuals
Identifying dimensions tolerances and part specifications
2. Assembling Mechanical Components
Fitting and assembling machine parts using hand tools and power tools
Aligning components for proper function and performance
3. Installation of Machinery or Systems
Positioning and securing equipment or systems in place (e.g. engines pumps conveyors)
Connecting components such as pipes motors or gears
4. Maintenance and Repairs
Inspecting machinery for wear damage or misalignment
Replacing faulty parts lubricating systems and ensuring proper operation
5. Machining and Fabrication
Cutting drilling or grinding materials to fit using lathes milling machines or grinders
Shaping and modifying parts as needed for custom fits
6. Alignment and Calibration
Ensuring parts are aligned accurately using levels micrometers and dial indicators
Calibrating machinery to meet performance standards
7. Safety Compliance
Following workplace safety regulations and procedures
Using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
