Role Summary
The School of Computer Science at the University of Birmingham is one of the leading UK institutions for research and teaching in computer Schools research is ranked 3rd across all UK universities both in average score for publications and number of world-leading publications according to the recent UK-wide Research Excellence Framework in research and education the School aims to optimize its positive impact on societyexamples include collaborations with industry partners and government outreach activities and an extensive wider participation programme. To support this aim the School offers a vibrant open and intellectually stimulating work environment in its dedicated computer science building educating well over 1000 students.
The School of Computer Science at the University of Birmingham seeks to recruit an outstanding computer scientist for the role of Assistant Professor in Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning / Natural Language Processing at the University of Birminghams Dubai Campus. This role is Education focused and will involve teaching as well as administrative activities within the University.
You will contribute to a range of teaching leadership and administration addition you will be expected to demonstrate academic citizenship developing and maintaining generous mutually respectful and supportive working relationships with all staff and students and ensuring the way you carry out your role impacts positively on how others can carry out theirs.
Teaching is likely to include a substantial contribution to: (a) the management development (including programme/module review) and delivery of teaching and assessment; and (b) enhancement of the student experience or role will typically also involve developing and advising others including: (a) providing expert advice to staff and students (b) supervising and examining PhD students and (c) developing and advising others on learning and teaching tasks and methods.
Leadership and administration is likely to involve contributions at Departmental School or Dubai campus level and/or making an important contribution to some managerial/leadership activities (e.g. working groups) within the may include developing and making substantial contributions to knowledge transfer enterprise business engagement public engagement widening participation school outreach or similar activities at Department/School level or further within the University. This post will also involve managing activity on the Dubai campus with extensive collaboration and liaison back to our Edgbaston Campus.

Person Specification
Normally a higher Degree relevant to the discipline area (usually PhD in Computer Science / AI / Machine Learning / NLP or a closely related area) or equivalent qualifications.
Extensive experience and scholarship within subject specialism.
Ability to design deliver assess and revise teaching programmes.
Extensive experience and demonstrated success in developing appropriate approaches to learning and teaching and advising colleagues.
Experience and achievement in knowledge transfer enterprise and similar activity that enhances the student experience or employability.
Ability to contribute to School/Departmental management processes.
Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes.
Experience of championing Equality Diversity and Inclusion in own work area.
Ability to identify issues with the potential to impact on protected groups and take appropriate action.
