PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The purpose of a Structural BIM Coordinator is to oversee and manage the coordination of Building Information Modeling (BIM) activities specifically related to structural elements in construction projects. This role ensures that structural models are integrated effectively with other disciplines (like MEP architecture etc.) and that the digital design processes meet the projects requirements for accuracy functionality and collaboration. The Structural BIM Coordinator ensures that all structural data drawings and models are updated wellcoordinated and clashfree minimizing errors during construction.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with other discipline coordinators (MEP Architectural etc.) to integrate structural models into the overall project BIM model.
- Ensure structural BIM models are aligned with the architectural and MEP models preventing clashes and conflicts.
- Perform clash detection using BIM tools like Navisworks and resolve conflicts between structural and other building systems (MEP architectural).
- Report track and resolve issues arising from clash detection processes.
- Create and manage 3D BIM models for structural components using software like Revit or Tekla.
- Oversee the development of accurate structural BIM models according to project requirements standards and specifications.
- Ensure that models are developed at the required Level of Development (LOD).
- Ensure that structural BIM models adhere to project BIM standards and protocols.
- Conduct regular model reviews to maintain accuracy and consistency in the models and verify adherence to relevant codes and regulations.
- Manage and maintain structural data ensuring all design information is correct and up to date.
- Liaise between structural engineers architects MEP coordinators contractors and other stakeholders to resolve design and construction issues.
- Facilitate collaborative workflows between all involved parties and ensure smooth information exchange.
- Organize and attend coordination meetings to discuss and resolve BIMrelated issues.
- Generate reports on BIM coordination clash detection results and structural progress.
- Produce drawings and schedules directly from the BIM model for structural elements as required.
- Maintain proper documentation of all BIMrelated data ensuring accurate project records.
- Assist in the development and implementation of BIM standards protocols and best practices specific to structural work.
- Ensure that all teams are following these standards to maintain consistency and quality in the BIM process.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering Architecture or a related field.
- Additional certification or diploma in Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a plus.
- Revit: Advanced proficiency in using Revit for structural modeling.
- Navisworks: Strong knowledge of Navisworks for clash detection and coordination.
- Familiarity with other relevant software such as AutoCAD Tekla or Bentley Systems.
- Experience with BIM 360 Dynamo or similar BIM collaboration platforms is advantageous.
- Minimum of 57 years of experience working in structural engineering in GCC with a focus on BIM coordination.
- Experience in working on complex largescale projects such as highrise buildings infrastructure or industrial projects.
- Experience in performing clash detection and managing coordination issues between structural architectural and MEP models.
- Strong analytical and problemsolving skills to identify and resolve conflicts or design discrepancies.
- Experience working with cloudbased BIM management platforms like BIM 360 for collaboration model sharing and coordination across geographically distributed teams.
