Determines type and degree of hearing impairment and implements habilitation and rehabilitation services for patient: Administers and interprets variety of tests such as air and bone conduction and speech reception and discrimination tests to determine type and degree of hearing impairment site of damage and effects on comprehension and speech. Plans and implements prevention habilitation or rehabilitation services including hearing aid selection fitting and programming of hearing aid ear mould impression taking trouble shooting of hearing aid and orientation counseling and auditory training. Refers patient to physician or surgeon if medical treatment is determined necessary.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer hearing tests or examinations to patients to collect information on type and degree of impairment using specialized instruments and electronic equipment.

- Behavioral Observation Audiometry (BOA)

- Newborn hearing screening
- Counsel and instruct clients in techniques to improve hearing or speech impairment including sign language or lipreading.
- Selection and prescription of ear protective devices such ear plugs and ear muffs.
- Evaluate hearing disorders to determine diagnoses and courses of treatment.
- Otoscopic evaluation
- Fit and dispense hearing aids and assistive listening devices (e.g. FM system).
- Maintain client records at all stages including initial evaluation and discharge.
- Plan and conduct treatment programs for clients hearing or speech problems consulting with physicians nurses psychologists and other health care personnel as necessary.
- Recommend assistive devices according to clients needs or nature of impairments.
- Refer clients to additional medical or educational services if needed.
- Advise educators or other medical staff on speech or hearing topics.
- Conduct or direct research on hearing or speech topics and report findings to help in the development of procedures technology or treatments.
- Develop and supervise hearing screening programs.
- Fit and tune cochlear implants providing rehabilitation for adjustment to listening with implant amplification systems.
- Instruct clients parents teachers or employers in how to avoid behavior patterns that lead to miscommunication.
- Participate in conferences or training to update or share knowledge of new hearing or speech disorder treatment methods or technologies.
- Measure noise levels in workplaces and conduct hearing protection programs in industry schools and communities.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to assess and rehabilitate recipients of implanted hearing devices.
- Maintains current knowledge of operation procedures and maintenance of new equipment.
Qualifications :
- A graduate of Masters in Speech Language & Hearing/Audiology
- At least two (2) years of experience.
- Currently licensed in country of origin and with DOH license to practice in Abu Dhabi UAE.
- Fluent in spoken & written English Arabic language is desirable but not essential.
