Job Summary

The Banquet Server is responsible to serve food and beverages in a friendly and courteous manner. Always strives to obtain maximum efficiency and promote teamwork between all employees. Knows observes and enforces objectives, policies, standards and procedures set forth by the outlet manager.

Responsibilities

  • Must know banquet set ups and storage procedures, handle equipment properly, tables, chairs, etc.
  • Must know banquet service (i.e. Buffet, tea party, set luncheon, set dinner, cocktail, etc.)
  • Must know side work duties before and after function
  • Must know outlet service manuals, hotel rules, regulations and hotel emergency procedures
  • Personal appearance is one of the most important requirements. The suggests (which apply to you) in the attached personnel appearance guide should be followed as closely as possible
  • Be punctual, efficient and above all, courteous. Assume at all times a pleasing and helpful attitude toward each guest. Never speak in a loud voice to other employees. Watch for the arrival of guests, making a point to greet them pleasantly
  • Always relay customer complaints, regardless of how small, to the supervisor on duty
  • Be aware of your work schedule and give adequate notice whenever serious circumstances prevent your adhering to your schedule
  • You must be familiar with the menu and know the basic ingredients, the method of preparation of each item
  • Be familiar with the individual menu items and critical if they are not properly presented, not or cold, as the case may be
  • The waiter/waitress is responsible for the proper set up of table. Check that all items are in place and lined up, such as silverware, china and glasses. Silver and glassware must be spotless. Ensure that salt and pepper shakers are filled, sugar holders are clean inside and the packets neatly arranged. That each table has the proper number of clean ashtrays
  • Responsible to know the prices of the various bar drinks
  • Will be punctual in attending pre-function meetings with supervisor
  • Will fully cooperate in “teamwork” for the initial set up of any functions even if they do not participate in the service part of it
  • Each waiter/waitress will be assigned certain side work that must be completed prior to the opening or closing of the banquet. Must complete side work to the satisfaction of the banquet manager
  • Will be requested to assist, on occasion, with the physical setup of tables or chairs
  • Although certain duties in the operation of a function are to be carried out by a busboy, whenever it is to the advantage of service to guests, a waiter/waitress should assist if possible
  • When ever a guest asks for service, although he may be seated in another station, the waiter/waitress must be helpful and answer in the affirmative. See that the request is filled either by doing it yourself or by relaying it to the waiter/waitress on that station
  • Understand the responsibilities of other stations and departments (kitchen, stewards, etc.) And cooperate with them
  • Will be assigned table station which will be posted in service area.
  • Will serve food, wine ad cocktails
  • Will not leave the floor without the authorization of the supervisor
