- Read in and have an overview of international updates through all available sources
- Develop the Al Jazeera English news agenda for the day with the Executive Producer
- Commission stories and assign tasks to the news teams around the world and rest of the news desk
- Review and re-write news scripts for packages, giving feedback to Reporters and Correspondents where appropriate
