- Performs periodic and regular inspections of assigned assessment districts and contracted vendor work including, but not limited to, parks, slopes, medians, parkways, public trails, and open spaces.
- Completes formal reports of issues, deficiencies and suggested remedies found during inspections; issues correction notices to contractors to correct deficiencies; assists in obtaining cost quotations and other information for various improvement or maintenance work identified through inspection reports; ensures deficiencies are corrected prior to acceptance of the work; reviews contractor invoices to ensure all inspection deficiencies identified are included in the citation report and corresponding deductions are noted; maintains records of inspection work.
- Leads, coordinates, oversees, reviews and performs work related to the upkeep, maintenance, modification and repair of irrigation systems, landscape improvements and other grounds-related projects; supervises custodial work for public park facilities; oversees the work of crews involved in graffiti removal; coordinates City staff in assisting with out of scope work on an as needed basis.
- Maintains plantings and grounds, playground equipment and structures; installs, maintains and repairs irrigation systems and controllers; schedules fertilizing, spraying and planting activities; applies or supervises the application of herbicides and pesticides; performs preventative maintenance on vehicles, equipment, tools and related safety equipment.
- Assists in the preparation of Request for Proposal documents, reviews bid documents, and reviews site irrigation plans; participates in pre-bid meetings with contractors.
- Inspects new plant material prior to planting and approves layout locations according to plan.
- Monitors irrigation systems and usage including: water use audits, irrigation system scheduling, well systems, meter use reports, renovation and rehabilitation, and emergency repairs.
- Provides assistance and technical support to other City Departments, various public agencies and organizations, and the general public; responds to resident issues and concerns, including in person site visits to verify deficiencies and follow up to verify corrective action has been taken.
- Performs administrative tasks associated with the administering of private landscape maintenance contracts.
- Performs other related work as required.
