- Creating lesson plans that meet academic standards for the student’s grade level and taking into account their interests, strengths, and challenges
- Communicating with teachers, parents, therapists, and other professionals regarding student progress
- Conducting evaluations to determine if the student is eligible for special education services or needs accommodations in school such as a 504 plan or an IEP
- Implementing behavioral plans designed to reduce disruptive classroom behavior
- Teaching students basic life skills such as grooming, meal preparation, and hygiene
- Preparing and administering tests to measure academic achievement and monitor progress over time
