Education: Most instrumentation engineers have at least a bachelor’s degree in instrumentation engineering or a related field, such as electrical engineering or computer engineering. Some employers may hire candidates with a two-year associate degree, but a bachelor’s degree provides a strong foundation in mathematics, science and engineering.
Training & Experience: Most of an instrumentation engineer’s training will take place while they are in school. Students will learn the fundamentals of their field while completing internships or practicums. Once they are hired, they will receive on-the-job training from their supervisors. This training will familiarize them with the company’s specific procedures and policies.
