Duties & Responsibilities:
- Champion hydrologic modeling practice within the Virga
- Lead development of modeling best practices, and collaborate with the infrastructure team to ensure data storage and visualization pipeline needs are
- Lead clients through the identification of key indicators of interest in models, development of modeling scenarios based on climatic inputs, water use information, and water policy or operational
- Work with the service and development teams to scope work to ensure modeling goals are included in project and development lifecycle
- Work cross-functionally to drive consensus and guide the team through filling modeling knowledge gaps and blind
- Build team capacity for taking on client work centered on hydrologic
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- 4+ years of experience using hydrologic modeling in a professional setting
- Deep experience using RiverWare
- The ability to run and develop scenarios in CRSS (Colorado River Simulation System) and CRMMS (Colorado River Mid-Term Modeling System) is a plus
- Out-of-the-box thinking related to hydrologic simulation and modeling, with a desire to modify and improve existing modeling infrastructure
- Some experience using coding/scripting languages (R, Python, Bash shell, )
- Comfort communicating at both technical and executive levels of detail, especially in explaining complex topics to those new to the subject area
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated productivity when working independently and as a team member
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative and inclusive environment
- Ability to think dynamically and respond quickly to an ever-changing workload
- Experience in hydrology, geology, or related field; hydrogeologic data analysis, modeling, and computer programming preferred
- Experience building, maintaining, and updating models in MIKE a plus
- Knowledge of the Law of the River and current State and Federal policies and dynamics surrounding the Colorado River a plus
- If remotely located, willing to travel to Tucson, Arizona for meetings and work sessions several times throughout a calendar year
