9 Tips to Successful Time Management

Although, the day is fairly divided into 24 hours for all of us, but why does somebody utilize every minute of the day and make out the most of it along with enjoying him/herself in all aspects of life whereas someone else feign illness to have some break from the accumulated pressuring career tasks and long working hours without a break! Time doesn’t slow down for certain people than others, but rather some people manage their time better than others. Therefore, in this article, we’ll support you with handy tips on how to manage your time perfectly to control and poise between your work, family, and personal life without sticking to a boring routine.
1) Start your day as early as you can
First of all, wake up early! Waking up early will give you longer time to finish your tasks and have time to achieve other life issues (family, leisure etc.)
2) Set goals
Setting goals is essential to any good time management strategy. In general, you know well what are the habits or issues that waste your time. Therefore, eliminate or control your personal time-wasters according to your desire. Also, define your goals in terms of importance and possibility. Follow the SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, and Relevant, Time bound) goals methodology. It’s the best, fastest, and easiest way to set goals. Successful goal should be:
Specific: states exactly what you want to do without being general.
Measurable: can be measured with a tool.
Attainable: not vague or not too high to reach.
Relevant: related to your plans?
Time bound: set a due-date (maximum 6 months) to attain the goal.
After setting your SMART goals, you can work backward to determine the individual steps to achieve each goal. Don’t forget to track your goal continuously.
3) Prioritize your work wisely
Create to-do list that summarizes all the tasks to be done each day, and use it as a guide throughout the day. Prioritize your tasks wisely based in the urgency to ensure getting all your tasks done in the right way. Imagine a plate of 4 sections on which you’ve to divide your tasks according to their urgency.
1- Important and urgent:If a task falls in this section, this means it has to be done right down. So, focus your energy and time to finish these kinds of tasks before moving to other tasks.
2- Important but not urgent: these tasks are important, but not as much as the tasks in section 1 and can be postponed.
3- Urgent but not important: these are demanding tasks but don’t have lasting effect. It means once they’re done, they’re done. So let somebody else do it.
4- Not urgent and not important: side-tasks that aren’t related to your big thing. Do them later when you finish all the tasks in the previous sections.
By planning your day this way, you can manage your tasks better even if they keep adding on. Don’t forget to be realistic and flexible by putting the tasks that could be done in one day.
4) Put your concentration on one thing only
Just do one thing only, don’t split your concentration on many tasks as this will confuse you and produce low-quality work. Although multi-tasking is an efficient way of utilizing time; overlapping of work can consume more time than the assumed.
5) Delegate and appoint tasks to others
No matter how perfectly you’re in what you do, you can’t do everything. Pass out the responsibility for specific tasks to others. Assign the most urgent and important tasks that require attention and time to yourself and give the other tasks to other people. This will enable you make the best out of your time and train your workforce staff.
6) Take break to charge your fuels
Take small breaks regularly to recharge and refresh! This will increase your productivity and commitment. However, don’t stretch your break duration too long, as this will be counted on as cheating on your job.
7) Dare to say NO
Yes, Dare to say No and don’t feel shy! Especially when you’re requested to do something useless or not urgent nor important. Prioritize the projects or tasks you’ve pre-determined. Once again, dare to say NO when necessary.
8) Toss away distractors
Determine the sources of distraction and control them. For instance, pin down the issues that distract you while you’re at the midst of an important task and toss them away.
9) Track your time & have time for yourself
Watch out the average duration you consume to perform any task in order to schedule your time better. Most importantly, don’t let your hustle and bustle take from yourself.
