- Determines routing and placement of cabling, wiring, and fiber optics.
- Performs physical installation of equipment and components (e.g. wiring, cabling, telephone instruments, microwave/satellite communication modules, necessary interface cards, modems, hubs, routers, multiplexors, equipment racks, etc.).
- Moves or relocates and reinstalls equipment.
- Responds to trouble reports, performs trouble shooting activities and repairs/replaces malfunctioning equipment and/or facilities.
- Ensures compliance with building and electrical codes.
- Implements system and equipment upgrades and modifications.
- Plans and implements departmental telecommunications and/or facility layout changes.
- Plans, estimates, and orders equipment and material in accordance with established stock levels; reconfigures and tests newly acquired or newly designed systems.
- Performs diagnostics, troubleshooting, and maintenance of complex, software-controlled telecommunications switching systems.
- Installs distributed communications equipment and configures hardware and software for proper operation.
- Develops and maintains facility records.
